Can two persons (eg: Husband and Wife) SHARE the SAME eMAIL ADDRESS on their seperate Profiles

The Husband [[Forder-234]] no longer wishes to be involved with WikiTree ... be he be as Profile Manager for his own Profile or be he be as Trusted for his Wife's Profile [[Aromatis-1]] nor as Trusted for any of his Family - Siblings and/or Children.

Instead the Wife [[Aromatis-1]] wants to be the Profile Manager for a total of 7x Profiles ... Husband, Herself, her Husband's 2 Siblings and all 3 of her Children. All this with her Husband's total approval.

The trouble is that Husnand & Wife SHARE the SAME eMAIL ADDRESS.

Can any G2G member suggest (Step-by-Step) how I can go about advising the two collaborators as to how to go about achieving their wishes?

Keep in mind that the Husband is Registered with eMail Address and Password ... but the Wife is not yet Registered and, also, she has the SAME eMail address as her Husband does.

Hoping for an answer

She will need her own separate email address.  It's easy enough to get a free one.

mailfence.com is supposed to be pretty secure.

Peter,

The husband can stop being a member by deleting his email address from his profile, which will cause all profiles he manages to be orphaned.  After that, the wife can enter the email address (that is no longer associated with a member) and, after she signs the honor code, she will be able to adopt all the orphaned profiles and, thus, become their manager.

WARNING - there is a problem with this if any of the profiles are living people.  When they no longer have a manager, they will be deleted, so this may not be a way to accomplish what they want to do.

BOTTOM LINE - I recommend that the husband write to

and explain the situation.  They should be able to make the needed changes for this couple.

I'm guessing quite a few of the profiles are for living folk.

Yes, Melanie, that's what I was thinking too.  Here we go again - GMTA or FSD.

(that's Great Minds Think Alike or the flip side, which is Fools Seldom Differ)

I don't know if it would work for Wikitree, but I know it works elsewhere - if the email address is (example -- totally made up) JohnandJeanDoe @ gmail (dot) com, then it is often possible to use John.and.JeanDoe @ gmail (dot) com and gmail recognises it as the same address, while the forum/whatever sees it as two different addresses.
You used to be able to, but you can no longer delete an email from a profile, you have to go through the close account page found at the Help > Close Account.
So the best solution is for the wife to get herself an email, and the husband to enter that on her account to invite her to join.

Then, once she has joined, he needs to add her to the Trusted Lists for the profiles he currently manages, and make her co-manager.

One of them then removes him from those Trusted Lists, leaving her as sole manager of all except his account, where she should be co-manager.  Then he should follow the close account steps.

Done this way, none of the profiles for their living family members would be lost, and she would presumably be manager of his no-longer-a-member account.

Would that be correct?
Yes, the wife would need her own email to have an account. Once she has an account, the husband can add her to the TL of the profiles he manages (including his own profile) with the Bulk Trusted List tool https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:TrustedListChanges, and then he can close his account. The close account script won't delete any profiles that have another member on the TL.

Thanks, Jamie.  smiley
