Here is the line of Dr. Robert Ellyson according to the following sources: Erwin Bible family sheet, written after 1783, by Elizabeth (Allison/Ellison) Erwin/Irvin. The bible entry is supported by the following citations, "Original Lists of Persons of Quality 1600-1700", by Hotten, pages 169, 178, 180, 181, 190, 191, 230, 270, 271, & "The Complete Book of Emigrants 1607-1660", by Coldham, pages 37, 39, 40, 41, 58. John of Archers Hope was the doctors grandfather--not father. It seems the doctors father Robert stayed in England. So, 1) John Ellyson from Windyedge, Scotland, wife Ellin Hamilton. They went to Jamestown by 1623. 2) Robert Ellyson, wife Sarah Spence. They seem to have stayed in England. 3) Dr. & Cap. Robert Ellyson, wife Hannah Gerard(bible). He moved to MD & VA by 1642. I would like to add the profiles for the doctors parents and grandpatents as I see no reason to doubt these sources.

This isn't an "answer" it's a question. Is there any reasonable evidence our Ellison/Ellyson/Allison ancestors were of the Scottish, MacAlister clan?

There is nothing in the Ervin Bible mentioning a McCalister connection. That was an assumption from a family history book. John Allison and wife Ellin Hamilton, their son Robert Allison/Ellison and wife Sarah Spence -were- once on profile as parents and grandparents of Dr. Ellison, however, no source was provided for some reason and they got detached. The main source is the Ervin Bible which is discussed in detail on Wikitree profile of John Allison or Allison--6155. The bible says these Ellisons were in Lanarkshire, Scotland. There is supposedly a DNA link between the Lanark group of Ellisons and Dr. Ellison, see Wikitree profile for Gerard Robert Ellyson or Ellyson--39, then scroll to DNA link.
