Royal Navy- Looking for ships grandfather may have served on in 1940s

Question

According to my mother , he Indian  father was in the Royal Navy and left in 1948-49. He was born in India and his name was Abdul Rahman born abt 1923 died abt 2004. He was a Chief Petty Officer- I would love to know what ship he served on. If there is anyone out there who could lead me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
