John was married to Mary Anne Boone, I am at a wall for further information as to his parents.

I thought for a minute [[Howe-2651|David Howe (1759-1828)]] ( https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/KH4F-Z33 ) and Sarah Whitney may have been candidates for his parents, as they seem to have been the only Howe family in Castine around that time according to the town's vital records https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G9N7-XDBY?i=97 ; however, unfortunately, it does not list them having a son John. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-99N7-X8SB?i=20

Not sure if it's worth looking in and around that family more perhaps (e.g., did David have a brother nearby etc.)

I also believe John died sometime between 1871 and 1881; he's on the 1871 census here https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/census/1871/Pages/item.aspx?itemid=859860 and Mary Ann is widowed in 1881 here https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/census/1881/Pages/item.aspx?itemid=4867587
