About a week after turning 98 years old, and after getting to have last conversations with all her children, many of her grandchildren and even one great-grandchild (of many), my mother, Miriam Esther Sess Smith, died in her sleep, in her own home, surrounded by all four of her children and holding the hand of her husband of 75 years.
I had the privilege and honor of supporting her (with my siblings) through a three week hospice journey, a journey of many stories, lessons-- about myself and my family members-- and how-- while we may have differences in our lives, we came together in support of her and my dad during this transition.
I am happy she is now at rest after a very long life supporting others.
