I need help sorting out these profiles

In my suggestions, I have a conundrum I'm having trouble sorting out. I've put it off for some time, but it needs to be dealt with. According to two separate suggestions, Morgan-20945, the mother of Minter-902, was dead before the child was born. The second one is that Minter-902 is both the wife and the sibling of Minter-128.

Both of these suggestions are true. (On a side note, because I'm sure some of you sharp-eyed folks will notice, I have asked for help before merging the two profiles of Minter-96 and Minter-181 - https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1353804/advice-before-merging-these-pre-1700-minter-profiles)

I am relatively certain that William Burns - Burns-5695, was married to Elizabeth Minter - Minter-902, but much less certain about who her parents were.

I'm not certain at all about how to resolve these obvious errors, and since some are pre-1700 profiles, I'm hesitant to make any changes without the advice of much more experienced genealogists on Wikitree.

Paul,

The first thing I would do, at first glance, is try to resolve the death date for Elizabeth Morgan-20945 and the birth date for her daughter, Elizabeth Minter-902

There is an unmerged match for Morgan-20945 and Morgan-5419 just looking at dates only, to me, they are clearly not the same person when comparing them.

I see a pending merge of Minter-96 and Minter-821  comparing these two, 4 year difference in birth years (abt 1670 and 1686) is enough of a leap (at least for me) not to proceed with the merge - for now- until more research is done.

Was that the merge and not with Minter-181? Unless Minter-181 is connected on another profile, I may have missed it.

Have you tried to reach out to the profile managers?

I'm not connected to these families, just happened to see your question when I logged onto Wiki - hope this kind of helps.

Is there any actual documentation for these people? For example, Powhatan County didn't exist until much later.  The DAR lineage cited starts with a couple named Rutherford, then their daughter Joanna and her husband "Morgan Minter" then their son Anthony Morgan Minter (born before 1732, died 1812) and his wife Elizabeth Harris. Not sure how this relates to the Anthony and Elizabeth of the profiles in question, but perhaps Anthony had two wives.  I can't find anything other than undocumented trees that give a surname for Elizabeth.

I did find this website, Anthony Minter b. Abt 1685 d. 1751 Caroline County, Virginia, USA: Minter Exchange (theminters.co.uk) which refers to a will for Anthony and cites some sources. Tracking them down, especially the will, might resolve some questions.  It says: "Drawing from "Dellinger, Mallory & Others," with reference to Marsh's book on the Riddles, the fundamental source of information concerning Anthony Minter and his family is his will, which was "presented in court 14 Nov 1751 by Elizabeth Minter." [Marsh, 1981, B2, p.259]. Except for daughter Nancy Elizabeth, the dates of birth for Anthony and his children, where known, are also from the will [June Bowman, email, Jan-29-2007]. Presumably this is also the source of the name Elizabeth as his wife. Anthony's date of birth is said to have been "about 1685." The Dellinger-Mallory listings also say that Anthony is thought to have moved to Caroline County "about 1730." If true, this casts doubt on Caroline County as the birthplace of his children, as has been stated in a number of places.

Listings posted by Minter researchers have identified as many as eight children of Anthony and Elizabeth. Presumably, most of their names appeared in their father's will, and perhaps in other records as well. Eight are included here, but substantiation is incomplete, and most of what is known apparently derives from the research by Marsh.
The single greatest deficiency in the available information on the family, at least as is known to this researcher, is that his wife we know only as «i»Elizabeth«/i». Not even her maiden name is known, much less anything of her origins. "

Note by John Minter, Feb 2012: Opinions differ about Anthony's children but there seem to have been 7 or 8. Of those listed here, little or nothing is known about James, Jacob and William. Research on the Internet suggests that the Will referred to above which was 'presented in court' in 1751 by Anthony's widow, has been lost along with other records of Caroline County, Virginia.

Further note by John Minter, Feb 2015: I have recently acquired a copy of 'The Minters of Pine Forest - A Family Story' by Thomas J Minter, published in 2012. The book is pretty much in line with the work referred to above, although it differs when it comes to Anthony Morgan Minter's dates. I am sticking with Doratha Riddle Marsh's dates. The book also contains some typos and errors so needs to be treated with caution; an example is the incorrect birth date of 1748 given for John Oliver Minter Sr."

There are a lot of Caroline County records available on FamilySearch, don't appear to be indexed but do include the 1750's when Anthony supposedly died.
I have not tried to reach out to the profile managers. I thought I'd try to get something concrete before approaching them but records for this family are scarce and in serious conflict. I agree resolving the death date and birth date makes sense, but I haven't had a great deal of success trying to do that.
