My Fulkerson paternal ancestor brick wall lies at the borders of Norway, but I'm under the impression that many have tried to break that wall and even hired local investigators and so far have come up with very little. You would think the man who built New York City for the very first time would have an origin story other than "from Norway" and nothing much prior, but records from the early 1600's are probably difficult to come from.

I'd like to say I've got enough free time to take a shot at him myself, but unfortunately, my dance ticket is full at the moment. But I will keep an eye on progress, as I'm very interested in the project as anything that starts to expand those in the Nordic countries can only help one day to possibly break down that brick wall.

Hello Scott! Are you interested in joining the Project? If not, I can pass along your post to the Norway sub-project. Maybe they can help. My “specialty” is Swedish and Swedish to American migration.

Dear Missy,

My mother was a Norwegian lady of Oslo while my father was a teacher from Dresden in Saxony.

I have been into Norwegian genealogy for almost 50 years.

But I do live in Germany

What Norwegian projects would you propose to me ?

I have done some vital records transcription in Oslo (cathedral) around 1800 as well as Lindaas-Masjord 1850 - 1890.

My last job was at the local city and county archives

I would like to join the Finnish sub-project.  My paternal grandparents stated that they were from Oulu, Finland and escaped to the USA in the early 1900s.

Hi Cecelia,

I also have ancestors who came from Finland to the US in 1902. They were from the Ostrobothnia area just south of Oulu. If you would like any help trying to locate your ancestors, I would recommend joining the Nordic Project Discord channel. It is a great way to communicate quickly and collaborate on research.

I am coordinating DNA  and family history research for my husband, Roderick Charles Simons, who has significant paternal Swedish ancestry. So far we have back to a set of his 4G-Grandparents, Bengt Andersson (b. 1736, d. 1816 at  Kvibille, Halland, Sweden) & Gunnild Larsdotter (b. 1750, d. 1861 at Kvibille, Halland, Sweden).

Hello,

My mother's paternal ancestors  came here on the Mayflower, but in 1900 her maternal grandmother came to Boston from Blekinge, in Southern Sweden. I researched her line after having found her birth record and immigration records and have found documentation of her ancestors to approximately 1650. During those centuries every single one of them was born and lived within a 30 mile radius, from Ysane to Hallevik, many in Mjallby, including my great grandmother. I'm interested in somehow finding the earlier records. It looks to me that where the records start is at the point in time when the area was regained from Denmark.

My wife and I each have one-quarter Swedish ancestry. I would like to work first on improving the profiles that I have posted, especially by cleaning up the spelling using the proper Swedish letters. I would then like to learn more about opportunities for further research and collaboration. My ancestors are all from Southern Sweden. My wife's are a little more spread out. I am a little bit familiar with using the ddss.nu website. I do not speak Swedish, alas.

Hello - I have an extensive family history in Sweden with DNA connecting me to Denmark, Norway and Finland as well as Sweden. My Great Great Grandfather immigrated from Sweden in the late 1800s from Halmstad area. His original name was Alfrid Swensson and when he came to America took his Mother's Maiden name Hammar as his Surname. I have been able to trace the family back quite extensively, but have hit a brick wall finding any information on Johan Erik Hammar who was his maternal Grandfather. I have found out that Johan Erik Hammar was a Crown Sherriff, but haven't found anything else out about him and was hoping this project could help me find more about him and other members of the family tree.

Yes! I am interested in this Nordic project. My mother supposedly had Nordic ancestors (we were always told Scandanavian, no specifics), as well as Scotch-Irish ancestors. And several of my father's ancestors were from Normandy and Brittany, which I have learned had a large Nordic population.

My husband has some Swedish ancestors on his mother's side. He actually visited some cousins years ago when in Sweden on business.

Please let me know how I can help. Thanks.

I have a DNA link with a Y-tested 1st cousin and some with my own (F) DNA testing, but not close.  It would be fun to see if I can further the family tree by records. The difficulty is that Sweden did not keep surnames until the last 100-200+ years.  My last know relative was Nilsson, when his son arrived in the US, it was Johnson.

I'm swedish and live in Västerås, however my ancestors are mostly from Skaraborg and Jönköpings län. My great grandparents have descendants in USA, I guess i have more than 10 second cousines who lives, or lived in America, still searching for more of them !
I started with genalogy 2 years ago and with Wikitree 2 months ago. Got a headstart with research work done by my niece and my cousine and is striving to research and document my ancestors. With the help of Nordic project Guidelines I found today, I'll try to improve the 200 profiles I have on my watchlist so far.

I am very interested in joining the project. My Swedish ancestors are definitely a brick wall, it would ... well, be huge to find their parents. Clara Östergren and John Peter Anderson.

I usually have a lot of time on my hands, and I actually like the "busy work" and definitely research!

Hello!  My Swedish ancestry comes from my maternal grandmother, Doris Hilda Carlson, born 1918 in Camrose, Alberta.  Her father was Eugene Carlson and her mother was Nancy Akerson (Akirson).  My mom's cousin has worked on the Carlson family tree but I would love to delve deeper and explore the Akerson (Akirson) side as well if possible.  I am very interested in joining the team.

Thank you

Cheers Jackie

I know I am somewhat late to respond.  I have been busy with the north east snow storm.  While I was shoveling I was wondering how much snow my ancestors got in Värmland.

Half of my genealogy is Swedish.  So I have been working on that side for a while.  I would be happy to join the Nordic Project.

I do have Nordic ancestors.  My maternal grandmother was half-Norwegian (Pederson/Larsdatter) and half-German (Lohse from Chemnitz).  My maternal grandfather was half-Danish (Nelson).

My grandmother's grandparents were born in Hedmark, Norway, close to the border with Sweden.  My grandfather's grandparents were born in Hjorring, Denmark.

I know that one distant family member visited the Eidskog parish in Norway where our ancestors were and researched the family there. Lars Evensen --> Tron Larsen --> Lars Tronsen/Tronson --> Thea Larsdatter, who moved to Minnesota with family.

I'm not sure how much time I'll have to contribute to the Nordic Project but I am interested.

I would love to add any help I can offer with. My Great Aunt Irene Krumplemann was a teacher and Peace Corps worker in Liberia. In her life and travels she published a book of at least 15 generations of ancestry and has many historical documents in the library . I wanted to write my family's genealogical lineage lines unto paper to visualize and see the many important persons, many Kings, Queens, and Emporors in history with elaborate stories I'd love to know who they all were that have a story to here. I enjoy seeing how far they were traced, who they are that brought me to this day. We reward and reme, remember, them years after death , I'd like to hear others answers of how these events are important and how things change and grow and the benefits, and what to expect in the future.

Also the Paternal side has doubted I could prove the royal lineage in my  ancestry . How can I verify this ? My son would also like the proof. I said they were great well known leaders of massive accomplishment in our lineage , but being born of a daughter or centuries down the line I believe will not heir you to any reward. You can still be proud of those Father's and Mothers . Is there a way to certify or verify lineages to several Kings, Queens, Emporors, Saints? I'm not sure why they don't believe it ? Or why I'd need proof ? Is it because how great they are in comparison to myself? Or just hard to think the people you see in stories and movies are your blood relatives.  Can someone help me verify our European  lineage with birth, marriage, and death records, artifact, braves, etc. I'd love that!  Primary lineage Norway , Sweden is what was passed down to me personally by my Great Grandparents.
by Angelene Kirst G2G1 (1.6k points)

Hello Angelene,

I love your enthusiasm! Thank you for your interest in the Nordic Project. Would you like to join both the Norway and the Sweden sub-projects?

I have found that a lot of people think they descend from royalty (including me) until I started researching, proving and disproving each “fact.” wink I never heard that I descend from Swedish royalty, but it trickled down that I descend from a Knight in England (my Whittingham family). I still do not know if that is true or not. It is fun to try to find out though! smiley

I would love to add the Nordic Project badge to your profile, but you need to be a full member and have signed the Honor Code first. Please come back here and comment again after you do. Thank you!

I would like to join your Danish sub-project. I have been doing research on my own danish ancestry for the last 10 years, and have also done a lot of transcribing of church records and census records. I would like to add my own ancestrial findings and also offer my help in any way you can think of.

With kind regards
