Richard Bennynge-2 is the wife of Richard Benning-2. Richard Bennynge-2 and Richard Bennynge-1 are both the mother of Joan Benning.

I thought my wife's Katter and Katterheinrich ancesters were confusing.

Tom - I'm guessing it's information, not technical issues, you're looking for help with.  I can offer my opinion if the other profile managers don't have suggestions.  You want opinions or hoping still for facts? :D
Yes, opinions in the case are better that the purported facts. I just don't want to guess and be wrong.

s'ok.  I'd suggest merging all the Richard Benning/Bennynges: Either Bennynges into Benning or the other way round.  I think first you'd have to correct them all to be male, and to do that you'd have to remove the "female" ones from their spouse(s). Then Bennynge-2 into Bennynge-1; then Bennynge-1 & Benning-2 could merge (either way).

As far as I can tell by the changes pages, Alice Lynch (http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Lynch-78 ) and Valerie Koutek (http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Koutek-1 ) both uploaded a gedcom that had Richard Bennynge as a female born in 1495, daughter of Richard Benning and Richard Bennynge.  Alice's gedcom looks like it also had a Richard Benning b 1490 and son of Richard Benning and Richard Bennynge. In short, it looks as if the gedcoms uploaded bad data.

Janice Hardin didn't show any parents for Joan (Benning-1). Aaron Stubbs added a note to Benning-2: "I show Richard as born in Chesham, Buckinghamshire, England. Spelling is sometimes given as Bennynge. "  I don't think either Janice or Aaron are still active in WikiTree.

If you think merging them all is a good idea and you'd like some help, let me know.  I'm going to be away from the computer a few hours, but I should be back on tonight.

Cheers, Liz

Thanks, if I can't handle it, I'll get back to you.

Take a break.
Just so you know, gender is one of the things that you can choose during the merge process if they're different, so you don't have to change it beforehand. Also, since WikiTree allows spouses to be any gender, you don't have to remove spouses before changing the gender or merging either. :)
Thnaks, Lianne, I hadn't considered that. Soon's I get George Allen and his brood organized I'll get on that.
Thanks for all the encouragment, The Benning family is all ready to take their place in the Great Migration.
Thanks Lianne!  I appreciate how gentle you are with the "learning opportunities" you take with me :D
