Hannie -- I corrected how you had your tags entered. You can just put spaces in between key words.

The DNA tag should get the attention from some of our members who are knowledgeable about how to apply it using WikiTree's features.

Welcome Hannie!  WikiTree has tools to answer your question about the Romanovs (Relationship and Connection Finders).  To make use of them, you must first build your branch of our shared tree until you find an ancestor who already has a profile here.  You will also have to sign the Honor Code and become a full member in order to make those connections.

So it gives me this degree chart, how do I interpret that ?
I don't know what chart you see, but if it mentions degrees it includes connections by both blood and marriage.  Please see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Connection_Finder
Thanks for the star Maggie!

The Finders won't find anything for Hannie until she adds parents, grandparents, et al.
Correct but thought it was a good idea she had the link on how to use the finder.
I mean primarily through DNA. I don't have my tree setup currently, so I won't have any connections as it doesn't do genealogical matching, but family tree matching.

I do the comparison on MTydna.org, but don't know how to interpret it.
if I could, i'd estimate or figure out where he'd be on my tree and add him from there or them

Hi Hannie,

You are obviously reluctant to add your tree in WikiTree, and with all your last names I would be as well.  Without that, you can't prove direct line to you.

However, if you know who your parents/grandparents are, you could see if they are already here in WT, and search for their connections using the relationship finder.  Or you could create them without adding your connection, so long as you have factual data.  As suggested before, one you connect to the already existing profiles, then connections begin to show up in the searchs.

For example, your last name Spenser.  When you are on any profile page, including your own, you can click on the search button near the last name box filled in with Spenser and see a list of all of them.  You will see there are almost 21,000.  They are in a weird order, I like to click on the date order, or narrow the search with first name as well.

If you change that entry to any other name, for example Mountbatten, you will see there are many fewer (I think it was 11).  But that doesn't seem to be your blood name, so that connection would be found on the connection finder instead of the relationship finder.

Good hunting,
Rick

well, I was adopted and my foster grandma told me I was relate dto queen elizabeth, so I've been trying to compare with there DNAs.
Francis, and spencer are all family names of mine, so is windsor, and mount batten.

So its hard because most of them are run by people, and private. So yeah,  i can't add to my tree, i am trying to find matches, I have some Lyon and Gill on GEDmatch. also some private accounts I cannot access through surname searches on gedmatchh so I am unable to compare because everything is private, also i cant find relatives of 70cm on gedmatch, probably because there profiles are private. my blood name is not my egal name as i was put under witness protection as an infant, and dont have access to documents because they are overseas.
Perhaps you could build out your father’s family tree but make each profile for yourself and recent generations as Unlisted (under privacy settings).  Then try to connect that line with existing WikiTree profiles from further back in time.

Alternatively, you could upload your DNA data to GEDmatch.com and then find profiles on WikiTree whom you suspect to be blood relatives, see if others connected/descended to them have tested their DNA and linked to WikiTree (WikiTree would display if so).  Then you could run a comparison between your GEDmatch number and theirs.

Since you are adopted, you will want to get your autosomal DNA on as many of the DNA testing sites as possible to look for matches.  This includes Gedmatch, FTDNA, MyHeritage, and ancestry.  I see you have uploaded to Gedmatch.  Looking at your matches, you don't have any that share a substantial amount of DNA with you.  Once you upload to the other sites, you may end up with closer matches.  You will likely want to enlist the aid of a search angel -- a person that helps others that are adopted or have a NPE to locate their family.  There's a Facebook group called DNA Detectives that CeCe Moore is involved with.  They're great.

If you have any information about either side of your biological family, you will want to start a tree.  Wishing you all the best!

Thanks! i've uploaded mygedcom tree, but it isnt integrating through onto my wiki tree, is it not supposed to?

Once you upload a gedcom, it will process and you will receive a notification when it's ready for you to review.  Here's a link regarding uploading gedcoms.

Just uploading a gedcom doesn't populate your tree.  You have to go through a process called Gedcompare and check each profile to make sure it isn't already on WikiTree.  See here:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:GEDCOMpare
also, i was trying to merge them I believe, is that the right process? not sure
i also added them but nothing shows due to them being on a trusted only list.

Hi Hannie, one thing to remember is that WikiTree's mission to create a single family tree -- with one profile for each person. So, if  a person’s profile already exists on WikiTree, we collaborate on that profile rather than adding it a second time.

I see the Gedcom file you uploaded includes members of the British royal family. I expect WikiTree will already have profiles for most, if not all, of them. Many of these profiles are managed by the England Project -- which is a forum for members to work out decisions and collaborate on these profiles.

If your aim is to connect yourself as a descendant of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, then we would first need some sources to be satisfied this is the correct thing to do. It's part of our Honor Code to cite sources and, as you might imagine, many people would ask us for proof if we sought to change the order of succession to the British throne.

I think the first step for you, before you can add your connections to WikiTree, is to do more analysis and comparison of your DNA test results. Darlene has provided some great advice above about things to do. The Adoptions Angels Project might also be able to offer you some guidance.

I really do hope you find out more about your family!

Ian, England Project Leader
