Since S.C. did not require death/birth certificates unti after 1915 how does one get verification of an ancestor ? My problem is there appears to be 2 people with same name of Henry King Odom...One's father is "Rev. James Odom" and the other's father is "Tristram Odom". Both of these gentleman were brothers....I know OBITUARIES are helpful and I have tried to get a copy without any sucess thus far....Can someone help me solve the true idenity of my great grandfather...He married Elizabeth "Bettie" McInnis in 1870...

Might be a good idea to find the church and then find out if they have a registry that can be transcribed.  Mags
I never thought of that....There is a church in Boykin that Vance Odom was active...Thank you for the lead...Nancy
I found the status of Death Certificate prior to 1915  was not a part of required records......Thank you folks for your imput.......Nancy Craig Solt
