Need help connecting parents - someone with pre-1700 certification

Could someone with pre-1700 certification connect proper parents to a profile for me please? Two requests had been posted on the profile https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Von_Gorkum-20 since last summer but no one has done it yet.

Proper parents for this profile are indicated in the profile comments. The wrong mother is connected and no father is connected. It won't let me do it because I don't have pre-1700 certification.

Your profile comment asked for help from the Palatine Migration project, but since the profile didn't have the project as a profile manager, the project was not notified of the comment.

I added the project just now.

And I observed that the parents were connected to the profile.
Father is now connected but the Mother shown there is incorrect and the project manager was having difficulty changing it to the correct mother - May-12674

The text section of the profile should (ideally, at least) provide the basis for the information that is highlighted by the data fields and the family connections. We have inherited many profiles that are deficient, but when we revise those profiles to correct errors, we need to be sure to document the basis for the revisions.

Therefore, before requesting a change to a connection with a protected profile, it is best to revise the biography of the profile to clearly identify the family relationships, showing the sources and reasoning for the relationship as you understand it. Use statements in "Research Notes" or a profile comment to identify the error(s) in the existing connections and to indicate what should be shown instead. If you can explain why an error was made (for example, "the mother currently shown on this profile is the father's first wife, but this man's mother was the second wife"), do that.

Please do not assume that a Project Leader will put their name on the changes you request, based solely on your say-so.

In the sources for Johann Heinrich von Gorkum, the first source I have listed is his birth record from the Reformed Church of Westhofen as transcribed by Julius Grünewald, Westhofen historian, which states his parents were Hermann von Gorkum and Maria Magdalena May (which is profile May-12674). What more evidence do you need?

Hermann is now shown as the correct father but the mother currently connected, Maria Sophia Catharina Speiss (Speiss-230) was actually Heinrich's aunt and the wife of Johann Wilhelm Gorkum (Gorkum-1) which were my 5th Great Grandparents.

It looks like the profile for John Corkum was created within the past week and then merged to correct LNAB.

I would send a private message to the profile managers first with your request.

Carol,

Now I'm totally confused. Von_Gorkum-20 profile is showing it was created in 2010. Both the Profile Manager and I posted comments last July requesting someone to properly connect these parents. Following your comment I went to look at the "changes" and see she did something (not sure what) a few days ago. But she had posted her comment saying she couldn't connect the parents because she didn't have Pre-1700 yet just now I looked up her profile and she has the Pre-1700 badge so I will go back to her again to see if she can make this fix. Thanks for your reply - I wouldn't have noticed these.

Rod
The Corkum-99 profile was created in 2010. It's been merged into the Van Gorkum profile.
Thanks. Profile manager is working on this now. Apparently one of the connections is Project Protected preventing the connection so she's getting some help there to connect it.
Glad to see it's being worked on. I looked under the 'changes' tab.

Rod, it is very easy to get the pre-1700 certification.  I encourage you to do it (and take it seriously).

Thanks but I didn't bother with it as I only had a few ancestors in that time period that needed anything done. Everything else I do is after that. Most everything in my tree is after the only known surviving Corkum family (two brothers) came to Nova Scotia from Germany in 1753. And I've a mountain of that to deal with. wink

The pre-1700 certification is not difficult to obtain (except possibly for persons lacking fluency in the English language -- the "quiz" does not appear to be available in other languages).
