Dr. Abbot was a physician, personal friend of President Monroe, a US Congressman, member of the First National Pharmacopia

Dr. Joel Abbot died Nov. 19, 1826, in Lexington, GA, and was buried in Rest Haven Cemetery in Washington, Georgia.
