Here’s some recent news from the Germany Project:

  • Thank you to everyone who participated with the Germany Genies during the January Connect-a-thon. Our team of 11 members added 1,725 profiles to our shared tree! Stay tuned for news on the next thon coming in April 2022.

  • Since our last newsletter in December, we’ve added three new Team Leaders: Friedemann Kiedaisch will lead the Managed Profiles Team; Florian Straub will be leading the Baden-Württemberg team and assisting Jelena with the Profile Improvement Teams, and Steven Greenwood will lead the Lower Saxony Team. Thank you Friedemann, Flo and Steven for stepping up to these posts. We appreciate you!

  • Speaking of profile improvements … Jelena started a monthly Germany Project Connectors Challenge. Each month will have a different focus and different profiles to connect to the main tree. February’s connections (Olympians) can be seen HERE. January’s (“Firsts”) are HERE. We were able to connect some people in January and February, but there are still some profiles that are unconnected. See if you have anything to add … join the fun!

  • Each of our 16 Regions Teams Pages has been improved, expanded and has a new look! Each region team now has its own lists of profiles within that region that need improving (i.e. unconnected, unsourced, database errors, and merges). We plan to eventually add some friendly regional competitions in an attempt to get some errors corrected and profiles sourced. If you have the time/inclination, we could use some help proofreading the new Team pages, particularly focusing to ensure that all the links work. All team pages except Baden-Württemberg and Lower Saxony need a check. Let me know if you’re interested in helping with this task.

  • Remember, project members are encouraged to join one or more of our Teams. We have 16 modern regional teams, 4 profile improvement teams, a managed profiles team, a translation team and several historical and migrational teams (i.e: Prussia, Germans of Russia, Donauschwaben, etc.). Project members simply need to post a comment on the team’s page and ask to join any team.

  • Our Translation Team has been hard at work translating updated and new WikiTree Help pages and the main project page into German. Thanks to Julius, Manuela, Isabelle and Dieter for doing this important job! P.S. Do you speak German fluently? Many of our members do. The Translation Team could use your help as they will soon be starting to translate WikiTree categories. If you’re interested in joining, please post a comment on the Translation Team page or contact Dieter.

  • Like to collaborate in real-time? If you have a Germany Project member badge, you will automatically be added to our project’s Discord channel. Participation on Discord is optional, but if you’re interested, you can find more info HERE. You can also communicate with the project in our Google Group, in which all project members are encouraged to participate.

  • Dieter posted the following News from Archion: Dec 18 and Jan 29. Thanks Dieter!

If you’re not already a Germany Project member, please join us! To join the project, you need to: (1) have been a WikiTree member for 90 days, (2) have made 100+ contributions, and (3) have an interest and appreciation of all things German. Answer our JOIN POST and we’ll get back to you.

Thank you, all, for the work you do and especially the translation team.  As an ignorant American who doesn't speak German, I have been extremely grateful for the work various team members have done to improve profiles in my family.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Delighted to hear that you're translating help pages into German! Anything that helps make wikitree more global is a great thing.

And from my own self centred perspective, encouraging more German participation is doubly good.
