Newspapers.com offering free access to its entire collection now through 21 Feb 2022 at 11:59 PM MT. You can search the articles without registering. Registration is required to save or print the articles. This is not the same as registering for a Basic Account 7-day free trial.

Just a quick note that the link to Newspapers.com in the question is actually via "anrdoezrs.net," a commercial affiliate redirect used by Commission Junction; this particular one came, I believe, from a Facebook post.

The offer is real, however. My understanding is that Ancestry.com members with an "All Access" subscription can automatically use Newspapers.com Publisher Extra access through Monday evening, but if you otherwise don't have a Newspapers.com subscription you'll need to sign-up for a Basic Account 7-day free trial to take advantage of the full access...ergo the commercial affiliate link.

If you'd like to look at the offer without using an affiliate link, you can find it here: https://go.newspapers.com/freeaccess.

It appears that you can search and read the newspapers without logging in, but clipping articles requires it.  I suppose that makes sense since clippings are linked to the user doing the clipping.

Click on the "Free Access" link - not the 7-day free trial link - to get this offer.

I was excited to finally try this. I tried to get the obits for 10 profiles that I have newspaper.com links to. I wanted to see the actual obit, not just the names within.  I could find none of them. Any clues to successful use? Have you had positive experiences with it?

Yes, I found several obituaries. Not all newspapers are online, so that may be the issue. Can you give me an example of a search you are trying to do? Try entering only the first and last name in the name field and only the year of death in the date field. If you get too many hits, select a state to narrow the results.  Here's the obituary for your great grandfather, Willet Coddington.

Margaret M, Holcgren-4428

She is one of two isolated unconnected profiles I have. No memory of why I created profile in the fist plavce.

*Obituary Details

::Publication Date: 26/ Feb/ 2009; Publication Place: Fargo, North Dakota, USA; URL: http://www.inforum.com/event/obituary/id/232235/

::Margaret M. Holmgren, 85

::Birth Date: abt 1924

::Residence Place: Lake Park, Minn.

::Death Date: 23 Feb 2009

::Death Place: Detroit Lakes, Minn.

::Obituary Date: 26 Feb 2009

::Children: Raymond Holmgren, Glenn Holmgren, Becky Krogen, Frances Abel::Siblings:  John Thomas, Freida

I did not find the obituary you want. The Bismark Tribune is the only newspaper in ND included in Newspapers.com, so that could be the reason your search was not successful. I thought you found the obituary but could only see data and not the image? The link you posted is for another site, not newspapers.com, so that could be the issue.
The link I had was now dead and gave no clues. Thanks for checking.
Thank you so much for this. I just spent hours making new discoveries. I had no idea my great grandpa was so significant.
I'm so happy you're learning more about your family! Newspapers are a wonderful source to bring life to our ancestors. These people had wonderful lives between their birth and death dates, and we miss so much if we list only vital records.

Is anyone else having trouble with the "free access"?  I have ancestry subscrip, and should be able to log into newspapers with ancestry... and clip to my hearts content.

But, each time I try, it loads that splash window to pay to subscribe to newspapers for more access.

You might be able to bypass that if you open a different browser to access newspapers.com -- without being logged in to Ancestry on that browser.
OMG, I had to go about it the MOST stupid way.  I feel like this happens every year, and I always forget.  LOL.

I basically have to open the email about the free access.  This like clip something from that...  Then I go go through ancestry hints to start clipping the rest.

It's redonk!  But, I managed to get it to work at least.  Haha.  Clipping away now!
Glad to hear you finally got it to work for you!

Having never used newspapers.com as a source, how do you use it in our profiles of people? As a source, as a photo? I'm not sure how to make use of this opportunity!

I use it as a source. I clip the article, and it saves the source citation for me!
