This is the fourth installment in a revitalized program of profile improvement for the Quakers Project. Please leave a Comment or Answer indicating if you will be working on one of the profiles below. Thank you in advance and please remember to contact the profile manager before beginning significant revision.

England

Giles Barnardiston (c 1624 - 11 Feb 1681 or 11th of 11 month 1680) of Clare, Suffolk, England does not appear to be in WikiTree. Significant bio data available in The Friends Library Vol 4 which is readily available online. Whether he is related to the Barnardistons who were Baronets is uncertain. Travelled with the Quaker Benjamin Bangs.

Benjamin Bangs, born Longham, Norfolk, England 1652 in the first month by his own account and in the tenth by testimony of his Meeting; died 6th of the 12th 1741. A Quaker minister and traveling companion of Giles Barnardiston, lived to age 90 and was a minister for 65 years. His autobiography may be found in the same Friends Library Vol 4 which contains Barnardiston. "His company pleasant to all with whom he conversed," says the Quarterly Meeting of Cheshire.

America

Charles Edward Pancoast (1818-1906) is today best remembered for his colorful and entertaining memoir "A Quaker Forty-Niner" published both by University of Pennsylvania and Oxford University presses in 1930. His skeletal profile needs a good narrative bio and profiles created for his wife and sons if you feel so inclined.

Addison Coffin (1821-1897) is the nephew of Underground Railroad "president" Levi Coffin and an historically important Quaker in his own right. The narrative bio can be significantly expanded and reorganized. See the NCPedia article linked from the profile and see "Life and Travels of Addison Coffin" by Addison Coffin, 1897, pub Wm G Hubbard, Cleveland.

I am undertaking Benjamin Bangs.

Edit: now completed. His father was in WikiTree but orphaned. His somewhat notable maternal parentage not yet in WikiTree. From what I read of his mother, someone should undertake to write her profile.

Giles Barnardiston (born after 1578 died 1681) married  Philippa Waldgrave and had five sons and three daughter’s was the son of Sir Thomas Barnardiston and his second wife Anne Bygrave https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Barnardiston-39 Giles is not as yet profiled, further information https://landedfamilies.blogspot.com/2019/10/

Edit - as time permits I will profile all sons and daughters of Sir Thomas Barnardiston as I am a direct descendant of the family Barnardiston’s of Kedington, Suffolk, England, any help would be appreciated as there many of them.

Thanks, Malcolm. I had been uncertain if there was a connection.

On the 27th of 7th mo: 1716 I set out on my journey for Lancashire, on the 28th I came to my Cousin J. Merrick's at Edsbury where I had great welcome, we being truly glad to see each other once again. I went next day to Penketh and was the day following (being first day) at their meeting which was very large. I had a good opportunity of seeing my dear old friends in this place, I went also to visit Wm Fell who was very weak in body, here I met with my old acquaintance Mary Penn (wife of Wm Penn jr.) whom I had formerly been acquainted with in London; the next morning my brother Joseph Kelsall came to me at Penketh, for so we had appointed to meet at this time and place on occasion of some particular business which we soon composed to our content and that day my Brother returned home, I went that night to Cousin Thos. Merrick's at Warrington and the next day to cousin John's again and the 9th returned home having had a good and satisfactory journey.
Which William Penn's Wife is John Cragg talking about?

Sorry about posting on here but wasn't sure how I went about talking to the project

I believe it may have been Mary wife of  William Penn (1680 - 1720).

Thanks David I didn't know they knew the Penn's I've heard of the Fox connection.
Hi, Heather. There is a google group for the Quakers Project but not many members actually use that forum. To get project members to help with questions, posting new threads in G2G with the tag Quakers always works. There has been some discussion of starting a Discord forum for Quakers. Any feedback on the Discord idea from all project members is welcome.
My knowledge of the Quaker movement is limited, I have a few books about it due to My Great Great Great Grandfather being a Quaker at Birth though it states on his record Parents are not members, think that's due to his Mother being a Quaker but marrying out. His Mother was a Kelsall. I don't think he practised the faith though I believe one of his Brothers might have some of them are buried at Lentworth, Over Wyresdale -  I've never been but a distant relative said its just a field.

Just realised I said John Cragg it was John Kelsall brother of my direct ancestor Joseph.
