Mary Ann Sleeth (nee' Wallace)

I Am looking for the ancestry of Mary Ann Sleeth. Her maiden name was Wallace. Everytime I come across a tree of hers on the internet, it mentions that she is decended from sir william wallace... however, there is no evidence to back up these claims.

I know that she was born to Robert Wallace and Margaret or Mary Lyle on 12 Dec 1726. She married in 1726 to John Alexander Sleeth, and they fled Ireland and came to America. She died in 1800  and I'm wondering how to prove the fantastic claim that she was decended from William Wallace especially since there is no record of his decendants.
