On 1 Mar 2022 Ron Ragland wrote on Pleasant-210: It was summer of 1972, I was 17 living on Currituck Sound, NC where I was working as a hotel manager. We also taught & towed people water skiing. In addition to water skiing, I had a small sunfish sailboat that I had convinced mom to go out on, with me. Along with us was my nephew who was about 6. All was well to start with until we got out about a mile away from shore. That is where our problem began. A line broke that caused our tiny boat to suddenly lean hard to one side which propelled my nephew up in the air & into the water. Mom went overboard also. Both of them had life preservers on so they were able to float. Mom was afraid of the water as she did not know how to swim, however, she was calm, focused on rescuing her grandson. I managed to right the boat, get Mom & nephew back onboard & tie the line that broke. I am hanging on to the line & suddenly the wind caught the sail & off we go with me being drug along flying across the sound. Somehow I managed to get back in the boat & back to shore. Mom decided that was her one & only sailing adventure. What a fond memory after all was said & done.
