Looking for birth details for Henry May (~1842) in Kent, Sussex area. Suspect but not confirmed he was born in Brighton, Sussex, UK around 1842. Might have been called Henry Burfoot at birth (and born in 1841 in Cowden, Kent, UK) since mother was Mercy Burfoot. Father was William May.

That's right. And while Henry says in the Census 1851+ that he was born in Brighton, he may have spent the first few months of his life living with his mother in Cowden under her name. The Sevenoaks birth certificate does not list the father and says he was born in Cowden, so I still don't know why the Census 1851+ says he was born in Brighton (unless that what he was led to believe to put him off the sent of being born out of wedlock).

Mercy Burfoot ,her father was Christopher Burfoot. Saint John  The Baptist,

Croyden,Surrey England.

The other was William May Marries Mercy Burford June 4 1842,Her Father

Chestertfield Burford.

The 1841 UK census taken on the night of 6 June, lists a Henry Burfoot, aged 1month, living with mother Mercy and grandfather Christopher  in Cowden, Seven Oaks, Kent. The property is named "Buckhurst", and Christopher employed as a farmer.
