Hi Catherine. It seems you may have changed the last name at birth on your account at some point. Is that correct? If so, it may explain part of what is going on. It would mean that contributions you made before the change are no longer attributed to your present account, making it hard to work out the history.

For example, look at these two profiles:

823 is an "orphan" with no profile manager. It has a photo. 825 is managed by you but has no photo. The two are duplicates: they represent the same person.

I'm not sure how this happened but there is a way for you to fix it. You can adopt the profile with number 823, and then merge the two profiles. In the process the photograph will be attached to the resulting single profile, which you will manage, and all will be well.

It is possible that there are other pairs of profiles like this which can be handled in the same way.

Please let us know if you need further help, maybe with adoption of profiles or merging.

Thank you Jim; you helped me merge the two accounts of my mother.  I still do need help adopting orphans; I would like to adopt all the orphans in my family.

Thanks,

Take care,

Catherine Climpson

Sure, Catherine! Well done on the merge. Adopting is actually easier. For example, consider

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Barnes-25226

which is an orphaned profile (a duplicate of Barnes-25400). To adopt it, just click the link [adopt this profile] next to where it says No Profile Manager.

What may be trickier is finding all the orphaned profiles that you need to adopt. Maybe you can do this by tracing through the family line. For example look at

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hornby-288

That one is showing three wives, all the same person:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hewitt-1981 (orphan)

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hewitt-5291 (orphan)

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hewitt-6455 (managed by you)

You can adopt the first two as described above. Then merge 5291 into 1981, and separately merge 6455 into 1981. (With rare exceptions, any merge is done into the profile with the lowest number.)

Can you provide more information?
by M Ross G2G6 Pilot (731k points)

Yes; I have uploaded a photo for each person that I am working on; and I can see it when I upload it but it doesn't go on my profile page.

If I understand you correctly, the photos will be on the profile of the person/profile that the photo belongs to.

It will not be on your profile because you are not the person in the photo.
