I'm curious how others on Team Missouri use some of the internet tools and sites for their research.
I tend to use ancestry.com for my testing ground, then when I have something solid and well sourced I add or update any corresponding wikitree.com entries.
I also tend to use familysearch.com for some of their research documentation. For instance, I recently discovered that they have a large volume of digitized books, some of which are searchable online. I've been using these two volumes on Bond County, Illinois ( volume 1, volume2 ) to try to unravel my Grigg and Elam ancestors who ended up there. A lot of the books there are not accessible online because of copyright restrictions, but there is still a wealth of information that is available.
As an example, here is a current view of the Griggs and Elams I have on ancestry.com:
Serrena Elam at the bottom is my paternal grandmother. Five generations back from her, the couple Joel Elam and Phoebe Hill show up on three different branches. I'm hoping to verify as much of that as possible in the upcoming connect-a-thon.
Regards.
