Shared Photo: My Mom's Almost Lost Wedding Photo

I lost my mom last December. And my dad has now entered memory care.

While my sister was cleaning out their attic, she found a box of what she thought were dad's old medical certificates in the very back of the attic. She was so tired of cleaning out the attic, she almost left it there. Thank God she did not.

First she found large framed baptismal certificates for our grandparents, and our grandparents' marriage certificates-- the large, fancy, ornate ones created by the German Evangelische church they attended. Then underneath those framed items at the bottom of the box, she found a set of wedding photos THAT NONE OF US HAD EVER SEEN. (Mom and Dad were married in 1946.) Including this one:

P.S. Her MOTHER made that wedding dress; and we still have the pearl necklace she was wearing.

Okay, I need to go cry a bit... I miss her...
Gorgeous photo of your mother Jillaine thank you for sharing
Learned something new about the dress... the war (WWII) had just ended; fabric-- and especially satin-- was really difficult to obtain. My mom's mom heard a rumor about possible availability and she ran downtown and purchased an entire bolt.

Not only an interesting story, but learning it sheds a new light on my maternal grandmother who I only knew as a chronically ill and depressed old woman. And if I look at a group photo with the bridesmaids, it look like g'ma made those dresses as well.
Beautiful old photo and to think your Mom made her own dress.  This will be a treasured photo available  to your family for years and years to come.  Probably ageless!  Thank you so much for showing it.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss Jillaine. I recently went through the loss of a parent, and estate closure. It is lots of work, but the payoffs in family treasures and memories seem to make it a little easier.

I found lots of cools pics too!
