Need help on Swedish Ancestor

I am transfering my dads family, and I put in the sources I found. My problem is I don't understand how the last names work, so I am not sure if I have the correct sources. So before I add the rest of the family, can someone just take a look and see if I am on the right track.

Hi Debbie,

You'll want to have just one name in the "last name" field, not two as you have with some of Anders' descendants.  In the cases where it looks like you have a Swedish name (Jonasson, for example) and an Americanized version of the same (Johnson), you should put only the last name at birth in the "last name" field (Jonasson, in that example).  Johnson would then be put in the "Current last name" field, or depending on the circumstances, the "Other last names" field.

Swedish names can be a bit tricky because children usually aren't listed with a last name until they are adults.  In general you want to pick the earliest last name that you find to go in the "last name" field, and any later last name should be listed as a "current" or "other" last name.

Hello Debbie,

Welcome to Swedish research! Here are some links to help you:

One thing to also remember is that women did not take their husband's last names until the 1900s, so this young lady in your tree, for instance, who died in 1860, should have a current last name as Carlsdotter (same as her LNAB).

Good luck! If you need any help, please feel free to send me a private message.

Also, with Axel Svensson, this source does not seem to apply to him, especially since he died in Sweden.
