I think Geni.com has a bug when it comes to my extended family. Can anyone help me find out if this is so?

Hello: I need to talk with someone if at all possible, to find out if I am wasting time searching for what I was told a cousin of my grandfather's. My maternal grandfather was full blood Indian, and told me Jay Silverheels (stage name) was our cousin. When I ask Geni.com, it comes up but always the Indian side of my family from maternal side is shown on a long way through my father's side who had no Indian blood in his family, only German, Irish, British. My mother is 1/2 American Indian and 1/2 Canadian. So my question is, does Geni.com often have "bugs" in their search engine?

Maybe build your family tree out a bit on Wikitree so that we can see what you are referring to.  I don't always believe what I find on other sites unless they are well source and have solid citations.  These other sites can be useful for "clues", but that's about it.  Try ancestry or family search to find some sources.

Thanks for the insight. I have an Ancestry tree going rather far out (over 10-12 generations) even into the 1600s for some people, as well as Family Search which is also a very nice free site. Its only on Wiki that I seem to encounter these issues of connecting me to my father outward when it should be my mother's side. The other sites aren't doing that. Oh well, nothing is perfect in this world, but they do have a very descriptive background info, so this is the only "huge" problem so far I have with them. That plus every match suggestions is a ploy for buying up.

Thanks again,

Deborah

Was your grandfather Mitchell Rene, a Maliseet (Malecite) Indian, born about 1865? Here is the 1910 Census showing him and his family.

Hi Nancy. That would be great, but   I can't seem to open the Census on my end. :( Not sure why that is. But yes, that's him. I hit a brick wall on his family, beyond his father Mitchel Sr. but I have a lot of family members for his mother Abenaki tribe. Not for my grandfather's Paternal grandparents.

I may have seen this one before, as I have all his siblings perhaps from that one census. But of course my great grandfather (Mitchel Sr.) parents are still a blank for me.

I think I did manage to see it however, on another site.
