Trying to add Willoughby-152 and it is not allowing me

Hello:

I am trying to connect Willoughby-152 to Unknown-137649 as her mother. Willoughby-152 is managed by the Presidents Project of which I am a member. I have been trying to do this for months and it's getting frustrating. I can't go any further on this branch. Anyone know how I can do this?

Thanks

Barb

You may want to edit the post to add the tag "presidents" so project members are more likely to see it.
Thanks, I did that.

I've read the article, and read the section of the 2014 Brewster book. I'm not totally convinced by either of the arguments.  I really think we need to find out if the Mayflower Society is accepting the re-interpretation of Isaac Allerton's will.

Although she makes a compelling argument, fitting her theories with her explanations of Virginia law, it seems like a lot of it is based on missing records and her explanations of Virginia law of entail in the early 1700s, and changes in the post-colonial era.

It will take someone with a lot of experience in colonial law to determine if this will stand. Or more primary records. I would also suggest waiting on the decision of the Mayflower Society to be published.

Hi All:

Well, just to add more info to the mix, I have just done a lineage trace on the Mayflower Society site. They said it takes 4 to 6 weeks to get the results. So far, the $ tally is $145 in two days, to find out what I already know. Elizabeth Willoughby is my 8 times great grandmother. DNA doesn't lie. But let's see what the Mayflower Society says. It should be interesting if nothing else :-)

Thanks

Barb
Thank you Barb. I await your results also.

If a profile is PPP only the project account can connect a parent.

She wants to add a parent to a PPP daughter.  Only the Project can do this.
I'm in the Project. I am a project member.

The Project account.  That's not you.

So, I'm confused. What is the good of joining a project if you can't fix/edit any of the profiles belonging to the project? If only the Actual Project account can make changes, this defeats the purpose of building a one world tree. I understand that we don't want people putting junk info in people's profiles, but if someone joins a project, they should be able to edit the profiles in that project. Of course this is just my opinion. I guess I'll just have to give up on getting that branch connected.

Thanks

Barb

If you are a project member, of course you can edit profiles belonging to the project - as long as they don't have PPP.

What you can't do is edit PPP profiles unless you are using the actual Project account.

You can make other edits to profiles, but profiles that are PPP are often protected specifically because they are subject to incorrect parents, spouses, and children.  You should post the rationale/sources for the proposed parents in the profile comments.  Then other project members will see them and collaboratively decide if the project leader, using the project account, should connect them.
Kathie,

Unless Wikitree has changed something recently, Project Leaders and Project Coordinators have the tech access to attach relations to project protected profiles.

As the lead of the US Presidents project, I have read through all of the comments and data on the "unknown" profile and the supposed parents.   This is the reason that we project protect profiles, and we discuss findings within the project.

While there is a proposed article in the NGS Quarterly, Vol. 109, No. 4, December 2021: "Correct Interpretation of an Eighteenth-Century Virginia Will Restores the Parents of Allerton Newton of Westmoreland Count, Virginia" by Barbara Vines Little, that determines Mary was a daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth Willoughby.   No one on the project has indicated that they have read the article and agrees with the article.   Also, the Mayflower project was also asked to weigh in.      Until we have a summary of the information from this article, the parents should not be added, although she was added to her father as the result of a merge.

Once we have the data and corrected information, we need to update the father's profile and the mother's profile with this information, as both profiles still indicate that Mary is not proven to be their daughter.

Thanks for the info Robin. I am currently trying to get my hands (or eyes) on this article. I have contacted NGS and am awaiting their reply.

Thanks

Thanks, Barb....

Also, if the article changes the view that the Grandson "Allerton Newton" is the son of Mary and John, please remember that per previous articles he is attached to the daughter Sarah.    https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Newton-7122
Hi:

Ok, I have the article and have read it. I can't figure out how to attach it here or even if I can. Anyone know? Or is there a place I can post it so people have access to read it?

Thanks

Barb

Hi Barb,

The article is under copyright, so we can't post it on WikiTree. What you can do is write up a detailed summary of its points in your own words, providing information about the primary documents that are cited that lead to her conclusions. Then create a full citation to the article. Any quotations should be very short and clearly marked as quotes.

I'm so sorry. I did not realize that. I went to remove it but I can't now as the profiles locked. I think the Mayflower Project will have to remove it. So sorry.

Barb
I removed it already. No worries.

Thanks for taking note of this newly-published article, Barb. I'm very interested in seeing it myself to see what new material or conclusions it reaches.

When it's a Mayflower descendant and there is a change to the relationships, we generally like to be sure that the Mayflower Society is in agreement before we make a change.

Let's try to get the article and go from there.
