Nehemiah Persoff has a wikipedia page that indicates some serious acting chops:

I remember him in several early films because I am old enough to remember and because I was always intrigued by his name. He studied with Elia Kazan and in films directed by the likes of Kazan, Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, Martin Scorsese and Barbra Streisand (Yentl).
It is remarkable for me that the young (i.e. Bobby Rydell) are actually my age and dying, and some of the actors old enough to be my parents are dying. With their passing, though, they leave a legacy on film. RIP Eastern Alliance Leader (Battlestar Galactica).
