I wanted to share this family photo and story of Arthur Sico with the community. Location: 603 Irving Pl., Long Branch, NJ. Date: 1973.
Arthur A. Sico "Uncle Artie" by my father's second marriage became a second father to me. He taught me the basics of life, how to ride a bike, how to change a tire, putting on snow chains, throwing baseballs footballs and shooting a basketball he was a star basketball and baseball player before World War II where he served as an infantry grunt and European theater he was the Fire Chief for the Long Branch Phil Daly fire department in Long Branch New Jersey. He let me ride in the chief's car to go to a fire in the middle of the night..
His regular job was in McCue's dairy where he paid me with a pint of chocolate milk to help him load his truck. He was an artist with a bowling ball in the 1950s and 1960s maintaining an average in the 180s with a couple 300 games to his credit. You do not want to have him as an adversary in a snowball fight. Speed and accuracy were his trademark.
Unfortunately his nephew succumbed to the hippie lifestyle, something he never stopped needling me about. At the time this photograph was taken, I recall him threatening me that if I wasn't his nephew he be kicking my ass out of the house. He was the best uncle you could ask for. He will never be forgotten by those who knew him.
