Did you get a duplicate image warning message in error?

Hi WikiTreers,

 

We recently made some changes to our image uploading system. We were alerted elsewhere in G2G (here and here) that it may be returning too many duplicate image warnings.

 

We've made another round of changes. Now the system will tell you which existing image the new image appears to duplicate. Not only this will be handy in itself, it should help us track down the bug.

 

If you get this duplicate image message but you can see that the two images are not the same, please post the two image URLs here. There should be instructions on the image upload warning about how to do this. If they're unclear, ask. Then we'll investigate.

Tried to upload an image and ended up with the comment everywhere. Followed your 'duplicate' instructions and succeeded in getting the image loaded

I uploaded it, but it did not show. I uploaded it again, and got the same error message. So what now!! But the image did not show up.?

1. Upload E53E64FA-B69B-45E7-9B97-B2648DFBD1D7.jpeg (same as (B) above.)
2. Copy the URL of the resulting image page.
3. Post a comment on this G2G conversation with the new URL and the URL of the existing image, i.e. <https://www.WikiTree.com/photo/McLennan-1664.jpg>.

Hi Awbrey-135, I received above message on my personal email (adressed to me Van der Walt-440). I forwarded it to the helpdesk of WikiTree. There is something amiss with this feed, a bug most probably. I've been receiving responses from each and everyone for four years now, even though it never seems applicable to my comments (meaning - as if it was my question). I'll be removing my initial comments now. Perhaps the mails will stop coming in. Edit: I couldn't delete my comments [and answers], so I hid them.

If you keep getting email notifications of new comments or replies to any g2g thread,  and it is not your question, or something that is still of interest -- you need  to go to every post you made in the thread and toggle OFF the "email me" box.

The "email me" is toggled ON by default.  I wish it were the reverse.

It is only with this G2G feed that I have this, not with the rest of the G2G.

The first time I tried to upload a particular photo, I got an error window which said it couldn't be uploaded because it was possibly too big otr something. This is the URL:  <https://www.WikiTree.com/photo/Forsyth-1066-3.jpg> with no image. OK, I said, no and ignored whatever it said to do next and just tried again, which gave me the duplicate image message.  Now what do I do?

I get the Possible Duplicate warning when uploading Agnes Paterson marr 1884.jpg. This is not the same image as Milligan-1200-5.jpg. This has happened recently with a couple of other image uploads, same Milligan-1200.

"Is the image you're uploading, Agnes Paterson marr 1884.jpg, the same as the existing image named Milligan-1200-5.jpg?"

I posted a different will then this one. The names are repeated multiple times in different lines of the family.

The will I was trying to post is dated 25 Apr 1835 Richmond County NC the sons are William and Thomas Garrett son's of Humphrey Garrett. The other will is from a book Abstracts of Wills1690-1760 John Garrett 1727-1728 Currituck NC and Thomas Garrett Chowan Precinct before Jan 31 1734

I attached picture to the wrong Aaltje Alida de Rooij.  Deleted picture from the wrong profile 2 days ago and attached to the correct profile today.

I uploaded on too small photo but I re editing on bigger photo can fit on the wifi profile of my Grandfather Antonio.

Yep, I got an erroneous message telling me to copy an mage from Campbell-39544.jpg when the owner of that profile has made it private.

Got the message when I tried to upload my BIB number (image) from the 2019 Source-a-Thon. Somebody else uploaded the same image as their BIB number, but for the 2017 Source-a-Thon.

I uploaded a photo yesterday, and it's not showing up under the person's profile image. I can't figure out how to make it so that it's viewable. It's driving me crazy, since it's a picture that was taken pre-1891.

The original post was a family portrait. The second was just one face cropped from that portrait, which I want to use as his thumbnail.

I had 2 free space profiles with similar (but not the same) titles. The first was from 2018, it only showed me one image (but it seems that there were actually many, it would only show me the first)

The second I created today (3-30-2021) and uploaded about 5 photos, it turns out those were (probably) already in the 2018 FS, because it complained each time about a duplicate, and made me repeat the whole process.

To fix this, I did an FS merge which just made things worse.

The current (and only) FS in my FS watchlist is this Space:Collection of (unidentified) photos from Gustaf Olof Barck 1804-1885.  

Please delete this, it has the wrong number of images at the top (says 9, shows me 5, but acts like it has many more than either of those, because I continue to get duplicates if I try an upload.  Lets start over, please delete that FS (and any other hidden remnants that may be there because of that merge). Then I can start the whole thing from scratch. thanks, Tom
