Hello, I would love to participate in the Texas project. I was born in and live in Texas, and I have Anglo American ancestors who migrated from various southern states as early as the 1830s. I also have ancestors who were part of the early Czech immigrations to Texas. Thank you so much, Candice

My Aunt,  Helen Desire Camp Guenther, lived and died in Hidalgo County. My wife's family, Hugh James McGovern and children were born and died in El Paso County and the surrounding counties. My wife's paternal grandother, Elizabeth Ann Brennan McGovern also died in El Paso county as did her parents, Joseph P Brennan and Alice Power Brennan.

I am a Native Texan and I have lived in Texas for my entire life. Both of my parents were born in Texas and my maternal grandmother was also born in Texas. I’m not sure the exact number of cousins that were born and live in Texas, but they number in the hundreds. I am currently working on connecting several families from pre-1900 Galveston (Moody, Ball, Sealy, Hutchings) to Wikitree while researching much of their histories and how they were connected in hopes of writing a book eventually.
by Dennis Hutchins G2G6 Mach 1 (19.3k points)

For those who don't know, the Moody family is certainly a venerable one: https://moody.utexas.edu/about/moody-family-story. That article is from UT's Moody College of Communication, housed at the Moody Center in Austin, and the Moody Foundation's website is at moodyf.org. And then there's Moody Gardens on Galveston Island.

The Moody family is very Texan. smiley

Welcome to The Texas Project, Dennis.  This is the Project Page.  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Texas    You could put the Texas sticker  on the profiles, or you could make a Free space page and list them a link on it back to Galveston County.  I will add your name to the List of Texas members.
Thank you Edison for sharing the background on the Moody family.   This same family also donated to the State of Texas which funded the beginning of a Genetics program. I worked for that Genetics Program.                                                                                                                                                         in Case anyone doesn't know  Edison is also a Texan.
There is also W.L. Moody Reunion Fairgrounds in Fairfield, Texas; and Moody Coliseum on the SMU campus in Dallas, Texas. .
Thanks for the lead on that information.
Thank you for the really helpful information.
Dennis   I added you to t he Texas Project.  Your original answer almost was lost in the replies.

I have very deep Texas Roots on both sides of my family. We are still growing them strong over most of the state. Our main names are Williams, Winger, Pugh and Carroll.  We have been arriving here since at least 1850 around East Texas mainly, Starting with my 3rd great grandparents settling in Livingston, Polk. Liberty, Hardin, Limestone and more of the little counties around that area. I am looking forward to possibly finding more information on my early family especially my parental grandfather Jack Pugh.

I would like to join this project. I have a cousin with the town and lake of Ratcliff, Texas, named after him. I have another cousin who fought in the Indian wars. His house stands on the college campus in Lubbock. He also brought the first Hereford cattle into the country.
by Janis Milliken G2G Crew (680 points)
Hi   The Texas Project has the minimum requirements of being a WikiTree member for one month and to have 100 contributions.   In that way you will have learned WikiTree and will know how to create good Texas profiles with sourcing.

I recommend, you add some of your family, with sources and soon you will find you have reached the 100 contributions.  Then answer this post again.

I am researching William Benjamin Davis b ca 1838 GA died 1926 in Palestine, Anderson Co, TX. I have no parental information on him, but have traced all descendants I could find.

He has a YDNA connection to Henry Ward Davis [s/o Thomas Davis] b 1809 Warren Co, NC whose family lived in San Marcos. He died 1886.

I was born and raised in Texas, and my material and paternal ancestors came to Texas as pioneers in the early 1800s before it was a State.  My second great grandfather was personal secretary to General Rusk during the Texas Revolution.  My third great grandfather operated the Ramsdale Ferry on the Sabine River prior to the Revolution.

I have Barton and Adams ancestors that moved to Texas before the Civil War. I am particularly interested in learning more about Isaac D. Adams, who may have been a Texian soldier as his name is in a list named as such traveling from New Orleans to Galveston. He would have been a volunteer from Mississippi. He later moved to Houston County, TX.

Hello. I have ancestors who immigrated to Texas in the 1820's-1830's. One ancestor and his brothers participated in the Siege of Bexar and the Battle of San Jacinto. My ancestor also was a member of the Texas Rangers. I live in Texas, North of Houston. I would like to participate, to the best of my ability. Thank you! TJ George, aka Twila Wood
by Twila George G2G Crew (830 points)
Twila,  if you can add more ancestors to your Wikitree name,  to reach the minimum of 200 contributions,  I will gladly add you to the Texas Project.  It sounds like you have an ancestor in Texas in 182-'s as well as a brother? that participated in the  Siege of Bexar in 1835.

by Charles Watkins G2G Crew (440 points)
Charles, please remove your phone number from your post to avoid spammers. There are other ways to contact someone on WikiTree - like Private Messages.
Hi Charles, '

You have posted your message on the g2g place where members request to join the Texas project.   The project has a requirement of 200 contributions and one month membership on WikiTree.  I suggest you add more ancestors along with good sources.   By the time the month is complete, you should have the contributions.   As you add profiles, be sure to Save each entry.

It is not a good idea to post your phone number on this site, as anyone from the internet can see it
