Changing/Editing Family Tree

Sorry if you're the wrong person to send this request to, but if so please be good enough to forward it to whoever is the appropriate person.

I'd like to edit the profile of  William Crispin (1627-1681) to correct some wrong information about who his wife is/was, which error came from a a book by Rev. William Frost Crispin published in 1901 with the long title/shortened of Captain William Crispin of the British Navy . . .  This erroneous information has been picked up and copied by many genealogists over the years but is nevertheless erroneous.

Rev. Crispin gives William Crispin's first wife as Anne Jasper and didn't supply any authority for this.  However there is support that William Crispin's first wife was Rebecca Penn Bradshaw, who was William Penn's aunt, etc. as Crispin claimed Anne Jasper was.  This support includes:  (1) The portion of the English census for Lancashire county conducted in 1664-65 by Sir William Dougdale, one of two Kings of Arms for this county, whose report includes his genealogy of the Bradshaw family; (2) William Penn's Will, and (3) the naming of this couple's children which reflect family names in the Bradshaw family.

Since this is such a big change, and against long-established beliefs, I need your help or permission to make this change.  I have a copy of the survey and I believe Penn's will is commonly available which I would like to send to you.

Hoping to hear from you as to how to proceed.  Thank you

Carol Lillevang

Carol, thank you for wanting to collaborate on William Crispin's profile. That's what Wikitree is all about. Working together to make profiles better.

This is a good place to ask since lots of people read the questions in the forum. You might also consider going to the profile, on the right side there are boxes to post public comments. Put your comments there, this will insure that the current profile managers will also see your message (Not everybody reads the G2G forum). Hopefully one of them will reach out to discuss your changes and encourage you.

I'm changing the question from Tech to Gen. help.

PS You will also have to take the Pre 1700 quiz before you can make changes to William.  http://www.wikitree.com/quiz/pre_1700

I agree that the best way to work on this is to contact people who have profiles of William Crispin.  There are a number of books which have conflicting information on the life of Capt. William Crispin and the parentage of his son Silas.  The point of Wikitree is to resolve these issues through collaboration.  Your input is helpful.

Jean, I contacted you, along with Jonathan Watkins, Lolo Wagner and Karen Lindberg as you all are listed as one of  the profile managers for Crispin-43 and was hoping for a less general response.  Although I admit I don't know how to use this feature very well, it seems you are the only one who even replied.

I'd very much like to make this a collaboration but it doesn't look like that is gonig to happen.  Help?

Carol
