What is the correct location at that date for categorization please?

Category: Durban, Natal Province. If you look at the category he is in you will see there is a previous category that covers 1910 to 1994

I'd say Durban, Natal, South Africa

The KwaZulu-Natal province was formed in 1994 and eThekwini municipality in 2000.

Historical correct Place name for your profile would be 

Natal, Republic of South Africa or just 

Natal, South Africa  as suggested by Koen (thanks Koen)
