Hear Ye, Hear Ye

If you are interested in people who are famous, notable, noted, significant, important, historic, heroic, or otherwise fascinating, then the Notables Project might be for you!

The idea behind this post is for anyone who needs help with connecting Notables to the tree to post to this thread and ask for help, or if you want to tell us whom you have successfully connected up, or if you want to join the Notables Project and get a badge.

Besides checking out the Notables Project page, don't forget to take a look at the Notables List page, where you can find lists of Notables who have profiles which aren't yet connected to the main tree. (For ideas on way to connect unconnected people and branches, see the Hints and Tips on the Connectors Chat page.)

Please remember to concentrate on those Notables who have already passed (died), so that we can see their profiles. If you create a profile for a living Notable, that profile WILL GO UNLISTED and no one can see it except for the PM and anyone on the trusted list!

And remember - Notables should have a Wikipedia page at the very least to qualify. But an entry in the country's NATIONAL Whose Who or a NATIONAL Biography  is acceptable as well. And they preferably should be DEAD!

Notable Deaths in April 2022

Just so everyone is aware - my home computer has crashed and I'm trying to recover it, but this is where I do my primary WikiTree work. So there may be some delays while I most likely will need to move to a new PC and get all my applications and accounts set back up. I'll keep everyone posted, but it could be a few days...
Home computer still dead. Doesn't look like it will ever recover. Tried to go back to my desktop that has been unplugged for a few years, but apparently that's dead too. Resurrected my previous laptop, that has overheating issues, so can only use it for short periods. Looks like a new computer is in my future. I promise I'll try to get back to all the requests and such as soon as I can get a stable computer situation. Thanks.
Sorry to hear that your PC had died, Scott.
Thanks, Robynne! New computer arrived yesterday, so hopefully by this weekend, I'll be be able to start making headway on requests that had been backed up in my queue. Thanks to everyone who has kept things moving along in my brief absence.

Way to go N!!  That is awesome work!!!
Wow, N! You are a connecting superstar!

I am so thrilled about you connecting Grace May North. She has frustrated me for years! Thank you so much!

I forgot one for Monday's list ...

Henry Frank Phillips-8325 - inventor of screwdriver
Wow - that's an impressive list. I was thinking it would be nice to have the Gyllenhaal's all connected, but you burned through a whole additional list too! Very nice work!!
Thanks :)

Last month there was no monthly Connectors Challenge, so I did some prepping with the Notables for the Connectathon near the end of last month.

The Five Moons were five Native American ballerinas from the U.S. state of Oklahoma who achieved international recognition during the 20th century. The five women were Myra Yvonne ChouteauRosella HightowerMoscelyne Larkin, and sisters Maria Tallchief and Marjorie Tallchief.

The statue of Marjorie Tall Chief was vandalized and destroyed just recently. She is

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Tall_Chief-1

She passed away in 2021. Can her profile be opened?

Her sister Marie/Maria is also on WT:

Rosella Hightower is another. I just connected her.

UPDATE: I added a profile for Yvonne Chouteau. She is descended from Jean-Pierre Chouteau, who is on WT and has a lot of descendants.

UPDATE #2: Yvonne Chouteau is now connected.

Moscelyne Larkin is now connected:

Nice work, Mark! Not even sure I've heard of those individuals before, but it's always educational to find out new and interesting facts.

I accidentally participated in the Notables Project recently during my Civil War project and was able to do a lot of work on Charles Van Wyck. It was fun and educational. Van_Wyck-77

We're all for accidental participation. Thanks, Kevin!

For the Star Wars EPOW, I did a profile for Luke Skywalker's Uncle Owen, Phillip Brown. Thank you to those who also participated in adding more flair to his profile, and who might have also taken a look to see if any improvements might be made. I'd love to add more connections, but I think I stopped around 3. He's got a weak paternal side, as the Brown family was a tough one to figure out. But his maternal side is in fairly good shape now.

by Scott Fulkerson G2G Astronaut (1.5m points)

Added Shelagh Fraser (1920-2000) who played Aunt Beru Lars in ''Star Wars'' (1977).

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Fraser-11940

She needs to be connected to the global WikiTree.

Nice! Hadn't checked into her yet, but I'll see what might be lurking out there to help her get connected.
I added a long line of Beardshaws to the mother of Fraser-11940 this morning. Her father's family line is a bit more challenging.

If anyone would like a challenge, Anthony Daniels, the actor who has portrayed C-3PO as well as a number of other roles, has some clues towards his family that I've been unable to do much with.

His wife, Christine Savage has been revealed on some sites as having an actual first name of "Agnes", so there's a possibility that her family could be researched and a connection made there. She is a "private" profile, so requests would have to be made to be added to her Trusted List. They also have no children together, but there's no word as to whether Agnes/Christine had children in a previous relationship, so there's always that angle to chase as well.

Anthony's parents have been revealed as Andrew Daniels, who was a plastics manufacturing company executive, and Mary Needham. Needham is presumed as her last name. Both are presumed deceased and likely born between 1915 and 1925. Anthony was born in Salisbury, Wiltshire, England in 1946 and is an only child, so his parents may have married in 1944-1946 in or around Wiltshire and that would put them as born by 1928 or earlier (most likely).

So that's about all I've been able to dig up. If anyone can assist or has other information to share, maybe you can add to the pool of information or possibly help in adding family. Thanks!

The only Anthony Daniels born in Wiltshire in 1946 has the mother's maiden surname of White.
Name: Daniels, Anthony P
Mother's Maiden Surname: White
District: New Forest
Volume: 2b
Page: 1411
Perhaps her maiden name was White. So 2 other speculations. Her full name could have been Mary Needham White, which might imply her mother's maiden name was Needham, which could be a big clue towards finding her parents. Or she was actually Mary Needham and maybe White was a first husband. It's certainly a good clue either way. Or vice versa - her maiden is White and her first husband was a Needham. Thanks!
I don't see any obvious marriages, but there's a recurring Andrew George Daniels, born 19 July 1922, died 1992. I wonder if we can't find an obit to see if it mentions a son Anthony and wife Mary?
I also see an Andrew G. Daniels, birth registration St. Pancras, London. Mother's maiden - Spiller. If he's correct, there's a marriage in 4Q 1945 to a McEntire. Most likely a Dolly R. McEntire.
1939 Register shows parents Andrew Daniels and Tessie E. (Spiller) Daniels. He's 49 (born 1890) she's 43 (born 1896). He appears to have had 2 siblings, both potentially still living, but at least blacked out on the register.
Only flaw with this one? He shows up in the Electoral Registers in London and Camden, Dolly by his side, and doesn't appear to visit Wiltshire in any way. He may be a bad choice for potential father.

Added a profile for David Birney, who died late last month. He was the former husband of Meredith Baxter-Birney and was an actor in his own right, starring in his most memorable role on St. Elsewhere. Because she's already connected, he'll be connected overnight, but if anyone wants to work on his profile, he's open now.

by Scott Fulkerson G2G Astronaut (1.5m points)
David Birney is now connected via his Huggins line.
I pumped up his profile a bit.

Hi there! I am just following up about my earlier post in the Notables Feb 2022 thread. I have not received a response from the profile manager and would like to see this error corrected. Here is my original post in regard to this Notables protected profile https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Moore-16881

As per Douglas Richardson's Magna Carta Ancestry, I believe that Margaret Brent cannot be Sir Edward's Moore's mother since his father married her, the widow of John Dering, only after 1550 (i.e. after Sir Edward Moore's birth). https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=8JcbV309c5UC&pg=RA1-PA176 I also came across the Moore family tree in this article on JSTOR showing Sir Edward Moore being born before his father's marriage to Margaret Brent/Dering. https://www.jstor.org/stable/27728361

This is now reflected in the DIB article about Sir Edward Moore as well: https://www.dib.ie/biography/moore-sir-edward-a5925

This also aligns with his father's WikiTree profile:

"He married twice and had five sons:

  1. Unknown Washington (daughter of John Washington). [2]
    1. Owen Moore. Eldest son. Clerk of the Check. Died 1585. [3]
    2. 1530 Sir Edward Moore. Born England, emigrated to Ireland. Married in 1571. [3]"
Could you please remove Margaret Brent as the mother of Sir Edward Moore?
Many thanks!
Andrew

It's not a Protected profile, by the Notables Project or any other Project. The PM was last on WT in February.  You could go via the Unresponsive Profile Manager route, if you liked.

It's open access, but I'm trying to think who else might have some interest in that profile. It's potentially an Irish Roots profile, so I might reach out to their team. Honestly, I couldn't tell you if you're right or wrong on this, as I'm not much of an expert on him.

I'd consider dropping a message to any of the leaders on the team:

Many thanks, Scott! Actually, it was Sir Edward Moore's mother that was causing the problem - her profile was Magna Carta Project Protected. I really appreciated your help! It's fixed now.

The Classic Disney Project has just connected George Lindsey, best known for his role as Goober Pyle on television's The Andy Griffith Show and later on Hee Haw

by David Randall G2G6 Pilot (348k points)
I had no idea he wasn't originally thought to be Gomer's cousin, but that they introduced that concept after they liked him on the show so much that they wanted to tie him in more closely to the regulars. He was definitely a great actor and I've seen him speak outside of the parts he's played, and he was actually a well-spoken nice man. Just so funny that he spent years making people believe he was an uneducated hick and making them laugh, but I suppose he liked hearing people laugh at the characters he'd crafted, so perhaps it was all good.

I have a guy who is notable and might also need to be part of the Denmark project. His name was Christen Madsen Rormose, aka Chris Madsen, US Marshall. He was born in Denmark, immigrated to the US and became a deputy US Marshall in Indian Territory and, later, the State of Oklahoma. He, along with Heck Thomas and Bill Tilghman, were known as "The Three Guardsman" of Oklahoma, and were responsible for the arrests, and or death, of 300 of the territory's outlaws. He is buried in Frisco Cemetery, a few miles from where I live. He has a Wikipedia profile. I would run with this, but I have a lot of my own profiles to work on, and couldn't give him the time needed. I hope he stirs some interest.

Heck Thomas is now connected to the whole distinguished Thomas family starting with Philip Thomas of Maryland:

We've lost two beloved comic book professionals recently. First, Neal Adams passed away on 28 April and today George Perez passed away. Both brought something special to the comic books they worked with. Neal introduced a level of realism to characters that has had an impact on how we view heroes today. George's level of detail in his artwork was nearly unbelievable, and much of his artwork that was done on various series where he was allowed the time to perfect the art will stand the test of time for certain.

Neal Edward Adams

George Perez -- Wikipedia, but no profile yet.

What's the best way to get a profile managers attention to connect a parent on a living notable?

There are so many notable profiles with little to no connections and I work at least 20 hours a week on building these out.

I love connecting as many branches as I can to the single family tree.

The notables team is awesome and super busy so the challenge is...

I am not getting any responses to requests, I have made over +50 requests or comms in the last year via trusted list requests, direct emails, comments and I haven't had any responses.

Am I missing a step or doing something wrong?

How can I communicate better or help aide the team in connecting these profiles?

I have a database of connections to be made as soon as I can get connect to the profiles

Thanks Notables Fam! heart

by Abby Lowe G2G6 (6.5k points)
Hi Abby - typically you would let me know, and I'll send you a trusted list request (if the parents are still living and non-open privacy), and then I can connect them. Living Notables are typically restricted except for long-term team members or 1st cousin or closer, so it's challenging to grant trusted list requests for them as there are only a few that fit into that queue. I usually look to number of contributions and when that person joined the project and try to balance all that as to when there's been enough work done on the project to begin granting those requests, so there's probably not a magic number there.

Plus (see comments just added at the top), my computer has crashed, so while I can respond from my work computer, I'm a bit paralyzed with the Notables account until I can get things fixed, which could take another week. So there may be some delays.
This is great insight, thanks for letting me know Scott!

This helps to know on the trusted list request, so in the future I will just send direct messages unless I have built out the entire tree and make sure I notate that in the request.

Actor Fred Ward has died. He was 79 years old.

He was in the movie The Right Stuff - one of my all time favourite movies. Full of big names from the 1980s and some scenes were so funny to watch!!!
