Hi. I've been engaged in research about my family since about 2002. At that time, I started a tree on Ancestry and took a DNA test-National Genographic Society. I've since taken both Ancestry and 23&Me tests.
Because my mother's side came from Slovenia, Ancestry represented just a big blob for all of Eastern Europe, who actually make up a huge part of our immigration, I was frustrated.
23&Me gave me places where Slovenia family came from and I dug into US records. So my Železnik family came from Riharjevec, Šmartno pri Litiji. My Muhič family came from Postojna, Koper. These I have researched on the Slovenia Matricula and found records. Not everyone is there, and there are questions, but those are in the comments of my ancestry tree. They settled in Joliet, IL (not Ohio).
My 4th paternal cousin connected me to my father's family. I have good information on my Fieldhouse/Brockhouse family and found several cousins. A question about an ancestor I think is likely related to Potter Palmer is what brought me to this site. My great grandaunt, Louisa/Lulu Fieldhouse married Elmer R. Palmer in Chicago. They had a son named Potter Clarence Palmer, 1889 and a daughter named Florence Gladys,1892. She later married Petra Rivers and moved to Florida.
My Irish Ward family I have successfully traced back to Kilmoylan, Ardskeamore, Galway and I think, but am not yet sure that my Kenneys came from Leitrim parish, Galway, the parish next to Tuam (Kilmoylan). The Doughertys came from Donegal, but there are few records. They may have come from the Malin area. My Miller family, I have not figured out the link to Germany yet. So this is where I am.
I've joined websites that have been helpful with Irish and Slovenia research. I'm serious, but still learning. I'd say my tree is reliable from about 1850 for most.
Most of the cousins I have found, I found through collaboration. So, I hope that by joining yet another site, I may learn something.
My Miller ancestor, John (Johan?) had a son, Frank J. in Baltimore in 1860. In 1884, he married Bessie Fieldhouse in Chicago. No idea where John went or died. Some family members think Frank J was adopted. I don't know. Bessie (Elizabeth Ann) was a sibling of Lulu Fieldhouse, Palmer Rivers.
