This is a photo taken 10 Nov 1965 of me and Pepper with my mother, Clarice Lovelace. She was an amazing lady; she dropped out of college and worked building B-29s during WWII. She was even doing this when she was pregnant with me. She worked as a medical technologist at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City until her battle with breast cancer caused her to have to stop working, and she died seven months after this photo was taken.

This is a great picture Alexis. It takes me back a few decades! We had a Siamese Cat When I was a kid, and my Mother had very similar glasses as well. Sounds like you have allot of pleasant memories of her and miss her very much Thank You for sharing this piece of your life with us.
Marty, thank you for the lovely comment, and yes, even though it has been almost 56 years—I miss her very much.
It's a lovely photo of you and your Mom, Alexis.  Her profile is skillfully done.  It must have been extremely difficult for both of you to have her life end at age 45 but as you well know you can have a lot of meaningful content in 45 years.
Pat, you are so right about a lot of meaningful content in 45 years. I love your comment, thank you.
This is a beautiful photo of you and your dear mother, Alexis.  It sounds like she was a strong and determined lady in addition to being a loving mom.  I can see a strong resemblance between you two and she looks proud of you!
Betsy, yes— I was so fortunate to have a mother who love me so unconditionally. Thank you for your comment.
My condolences for your mother's passing from breast cancer. It is one of the most terrifying events in one's life to have a loved one diagnosed with breast cancer, but it really makes you appreciate the times you have with them. She seems like a strong woman who undoubtedly fought it bravely to the very end. You both wore impeccable outfits in that photo and the cat seems very well-mannered!
Brianna, thank you for your deeply understanding comment. Yes, she was very brave.
Alexis, l agree with all of the comments written above. What a great photo. All I can add is that you never know how long you will be with a loved one so we must make every moment count.
I am sorry you lost your mother to Cancer, I too lost my mother from it , she had Ovarian Cancer , but she had her Ovaries removed in 1992 but still got it in 2001, but kept coming back to different areas of her body , she died in 2011 , so I understand it is difficult to watch a love one go thru that , my younger brother died of Colon cancer in 2010, his was more aggressive ,
Janine, thank you for your comment. It must have been especially hard on your whole family with your younger brother’s death and then your mother.
I'm sorry to be so late with a comment, Alexis. This is such a lovely photo of you and your mother (and Pepper!). Such a shame that your mother was taken at 45. She seems to have been such a remarkable lady, and would have had much more life to live.
Lloyd, such a nice comment from you is never late.

Janine, thank you for sharing such a sweet photo for Mothers. You must have been a very busy mother with two adorable girls so close in age. Are they twins? It looks like a beautiful day for a great outing.

This photo is my mother and my youngest brother, taken either fall 1970 or spring 1971, there is a 15 year gap and 4 sisters between my younger brother and me and only 15 months between me and my older brother. Yes that's right a boy then 5 girls than another boy.

Thank you M Ross for sharing such a lovely photo of your mother. Seven children, she must have been a remarkable lady.
This is great! Reminds me of my wife and first son ready to ride off into the sunset. Today she would be stopped for endangering a child.

A wonderful gift Mom gave me was her enthusiasm for what she called "points of interest."  She didn't drive a car but she was the driver.  She pushed our little family of three to visit so many places.  It started when I was young.  Here, in 1953 we are on top of Whiteface Mountain in upstate New York (4,872 feet read the sign).  It's not that she selected every place we visited.  She so encouraged Dad that he developed ideas of his own.  Without Mom it would have been the same places over and over again.  There's nothing wrong with that, it's just that Mom's way made me a happier, more grateful person.

http://wikitree.com/wiki/Stielow-18  Mom lost a leg seven months before she died and was in hospital care.  I visited her every day and ate either lunch or dinner with her.   I went because I loved her.  Truly understanding what she did for me came after her death.

Pat, we were so very lucky to have wonderful mothers, What a precious gift we had, and the many things that they taught us—we still have.
Thank you, Alexis, beautifully said.
Pat, this is a lovely description of your mother's spirit.  We should all be so lucky as to have "drivers" with vision and imagination in our early years.
Thank you, Betsy.  She improved my father's life as well.
Pat, thank you for sharing this beautiful photo. I have come to appreciate the fact that my success in life was largely due to the great support, encouragement and education that I received from my mother. We are so fortunate.
Thank you, Marion, well said.
Sorry for the late comment, Pat. I love the way your father (I assume) captured little you confidently climbing those tall steps to get to the telescope, with your mother looking on from a few steps away, letting you "do it yourself," but ready, it seems, to intervene if necessary. You were so fortunate to have a mother who made sure you saw and experienced "points of interest." It was my father who filled that role in my childhood, even just making sure we observed things we passed while driving down the highway.
Lloyd, thank you for your perceptive observations about the Lookout but due to a comment from Alexis I've come to realize that Mom was also trying with these "points of interest" to create memories for herself.  Her childhood must have been boring or difficult because she wouldn't talk about it.  It's as if her life began when she left home.

This is my Ma holding a 3 month old me. Even though we live 700 miles apart, we still chat often and get together when we can. She is absolutely thrilled that I began my genealogy journey since we didn't know a whole bunch about her family. My weekly "Status Reports" are something we both look forward to. heart

My mother's sister (as I am told, an only surviving twin), Sheila Balfour (Moore) Winchester 1917-1960.  In 1954, I remember visiting her family in Edmonton, Alberta, where her husband, Don, serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force, was stationed.  Her children, at the time, included Valerie and Deirdre, with Guy and Hollie, to follow as they were relocated to Luxembourg and Quebec.

My grandmother's sister Elsie holding her new daughter Ruth, while her mother Anna looks on.(Stephentown, New York, 1916). Ruth became the mother of thirteen children; her oldest son, Vernon French, died this past winter. I will bring this picture when I travel to Maine for his memorial service..

Here is my maternal grandmother Margaret Evelyn McMurray holding my mother.  I love this photo because you can see both of their faces so well.  I'm also intrigued by the pattern on my grandmother's dress.  She was very skilled as a seamstress and grew up making her own clothes.  I wonder if she made this dress.

Betsy, before I read your answer—I was thinking—Wow! I love dress and this photo! Thank you for sharing such a wonderful photo of your beautiful grandmother and your precious mother.
Yes, you've described it well, Betsy, why this photo is so precious. Your mom and grandmother are adorable.  I love the dress.  That style returned briefly in the 1980s, mid-calf, bold pattern, puffy short sleeves.
Reminds me of my maternal grandmother holding my mom. My maternal grandmother taught me how to sew, a skill that has been very useful to my husband and me.
Sorry for the late comment, Betsy. This is such a sweet photo of your mother and grandmother. I admire the way your grandmother seems to have gotten your mother to look at the camera for the photo--often not an easy task with infants and toddlers!
Thank you, Lloyd.  How I wish I had known my grandmother!
Thank you for commenting, Marion.  I wish that the sewing gene had passed down to me.  It is indeed a very valuable skill.
Hello Pat--You're right and I'm going to date myself and admit that I remember that fashion trend of the 80s!
Thank you, Alexis. ❤️

Here are three generations of mothers. This photo was taken on the McClain farm in Tallman, Oregon about 1932.

My mother, Florence McClain, is in the middle. On the left is her mother Addie McClain, and on the right is Addie's mother, Sarah Hammell. Sarah was an accomplished seamstress and dressmaker, and made clothes for her children and grandchildren, and probably even great grandchildren. I don't know whether she made any of the dresses in this photo. Addie had crossed eyes from a very young age (probably congenital). Her vision was corrected with glasses, but the appearance of her eyes was a lifelong embarrassment to her. In spite of this, she became an accomplished pianist in her youth, and taught piano for a time. Sadly, she gave up piano to raise a family and help keep the farm going. If I ever heard her play, I was too young to remember it. My mother became a nurse, but gave it up when the children came. She returned to nursing when the last of her children were in junior high school. She was a wise and a very patient mother. (I speak from personal experience on that!)

Interesting trivia: all three of these were the oldest child in their families. This "tradition" of the female oldest child continued for two more generations, but then my oldest sister's daughter had a son first and broke the pattern.

Apologies for the white streak across Sarah's front. It appears to have been made by a hair stuck to the negative when it was printed. I find it a bit distracting.

Lloyd, so interesting that I have two photos that have lines in them, and I am the only one that notices the lines in them. I just thought the line is a part of Sarah’s dress. Thank you for sharing another of your great photos.
Wonderful, Lloyd.  You are so fortunate to have the three generations in this time period not only alive, but photographed together.  Today, it's more common to have three generations together; we're living longer; more people take pictures but the past was not as overflowing with three-generation photos.
Thank you, as always, for your kind and encouraging comments, Alexis. I originally thought the line was part of her dress, too. But once I realized what it really was, it was impossible to un-see it.
Thank you for your great observation, Pat. I'm sure you're right, and I do feel fortunate to have photos such as this one.

This is a photo of my grandparents, Samira (left) and Morcos (right), holding their first-born child (my uncle) around 1966 in Alexandria, Egypt. Judging from the photos around this in the photobook where this was scanned, as well as the outfit my uncle was wearing, this photo was taken right before or right after his baptism. Samira and Morcos would have another child seven years later: my mother.

My mom, Lucille Dawson Ceruti, is featured here at the time of her 8th grade graduation. She has always been beautiful to me, and also very smart, valedictorian of her graduating high school class at age 15.

by Marion Ceruti G2G6 Pilot (358k points)
Marion, thank you for sharing this lovely photo of your mother. After seeing this photo, I had to read Lucille’s very interesting profile. She certainly was a lady with many talents.
Thank You for sharing this great photo of your Mother with us. Like Alexis, I went to Lucille's profile to get a better idea of her story. She brought joy to so many.
Encouraged by Alexis and Marty, I too found your mother's profile, Marion, and what a superb job you did. This photo of her is so sweet.

This is my mother's Halloween costume at her yearly Halloween party, on October 30, 1999. My mom was parodying a Carol Burnett sketch, who in turn was parodying Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With The Wind.

What a great costume Trevor! Looks like it took place at the infamous 'Haunted Campground' smiley

My mother, Jeanne Lois Foerster Wall, 1931-2021.

This was taken when she worked as a Teacher’s Aide for the public school system.  Mom was in her mid 70’s at the time and retired a couple of years later.

She spent the majority of her life teaching childrenHigh School Senior Picture.  She had 7 of her own.  She didn’t work outside the home until the youngest of us started High School.  Through a friend she started working for the local Guardian Home where at risk and problem children were sent by the court if they didn’t qualify for Juvenile Hall.  Mom kept spending more and more of her free time tutoring those children.  When that program shut down she used her knowledge and hours worked to transition to the Teachers Aide.  She never attended college and took one night school class in accounting and one in Algebra. She was super patient with kids of all ages.

Thank You for sharing your Mother with us Jan. Jeanne sounds like she was a gift of hope to all the lives that she touched.
Thank you for your kind remarks.  She passed so recently I think myself and my siblings are still in denial.  She was truly a beautiful person clear up until her death.

Thanks for sharing Azure. Sounds like this would be quite the family gathering. My Mother made lots of clothing in the 60s and 70s as well. It's always a bonus printed on to pic as well.
Azure, thank you for sharing the lovely photo of your mother. She is movie star beautiful. I love that she made the dress she is wearing, and even with six little children.
Wow, Azure! How did your mother manage to look so lovely (and make such a beautiful dress) while keeping up with six young children? Very impressive! Thanks for sharing.
