Why are we having to edit all our profiles to note "no more spouses" [closed]

I am having to go into all my established profiles (my parents, grandparents, etc.) to check off "no more spouses".  It is annoying!

Because of a recent change.  (I am not hunting them all down -- way too many -- but when I have need to edit a profile, I now mark it.  I wish I didn't need to . . .)

For accuracy, members should edit all the profiles and mark the appropriate statuses.

By adding the following category to one's own profile, it will help the member in identifying those profiles, which the member manages, that need to be examined and the statuses set for completeness.

There is no requirement to check off 'no more spouses' or no spouse at all, or no more children, or no children at all or no more siblings or no siblings at all.

It is an option that can be used when you are sure that there are no additional people to add.

Hi Jeanie.

I use it as a way to know there are no evidence of other relations or children that may exist. This tells me that I checked into it smiley

It didn't used to show on the profile view.  That is new, and a result of a recent change.

Who said you have to.

They added a "add spouse" even if you added one because it is faster for profiles with more than one spouse to add another one.

Anyway are you REALLY sure your great-great-great-great-grand father or mother did not have another spouse.

I only add no spouses if it is a child that died young.

It looks much neater on profile view without the [add spouse?] sitting there when you'd already had a "tidy" profile because all spouses had been added, both parents, and all children.

It's not required, but especially for men (and sometimes women) who had more than two spouses I find it useful.

Jeanie,

This type of change has happened more times than I can count or remember over the last decade I've been here.

If you are relatively new here and have only created a few profiles....it is pretty easy to bring those few profiles up to speed.

Once you've been active for a while and pass a certain threshold...say 5,000 or more profiles created....even if this particular change might make the profiles look a little less 'finished' or seem like there's a question on if there actually is another spouse out there that hasn't been added...(adding a ? without any evidence or reason given to suggest that the issue exists)... it becomes something that you just learn to ignore.

You'll understand that this will likely spawn an 'Add A Spouse A-Thon' or two and some happy wikitree'rs will be thrilled to earn their 1000 monthly contribution badges and place high on the A-Thon participation charts by going to those 5000+ profiles and clicking on the "No more spouses' button and you'll feel content about having provided the opportunity.
