Samuel S. Kieffer of Wyandotte Co., Kansas, after death of first wife, Mary Ann Mullins, married Sarah J. Brown in Wyandotte Co., Kansas, in September of 1874, and they had a daughter born November 29, 1876, in Wyandotte Co., Kansas, named Leah Maud Kieffer.  Leah Maud Kieffer and her family moved to Smith Co., Kansas in 1880.  I believe Leah Maude Kieffer was my grandmother.  She later went by just Maude and was married to Charles S. Hope of Smith Co., Kansas.

The father of Charles S. Hope, who was Benjamin B. Hope of Iowa, (born in Pittsburgh, PA - son of English imigrant James and Jane Hope) moved his family to Smith Co., Kansas also in 1880.

My main question is what happened to Sarah J. Brown Kieffer, who would be my great grandmother????  Did she die in childbirth?  Cannot find any record of her, unless she is the Sarah J. Brown of the Brown family in Daviess Co., Mo, and there is not death date for her there that I can find.

My great grandfather, Samuel S. Kieffer (born in Virginia) remarried in 1877 to Elizabeth Jane Hoppe Clapperton Kieffer, in Wyandotte Co., Kansas.

My grandmother later went by the name of Maude Pearl Hope, and this is what is on her tombstone in the St. Charles, Iowa Cemetery.  Her date of birth on her stone is 1874, but I am pretty sure that is not correct, as on the old census reports, she is listed as being born in 1876, or as being two years younger than my grandfather.

Please help me with who is Sarah J. Brown Kieffer, and what happened to her, and why did my grandmother drop the name of Leah and change to Maude Pearl?

On the Internet in my grandmother's obituary, which was written up in the past few years, and not in 1948, when she died, she is said to have been born in Missouri and grew up there.  I am sure this is not correct, and want a little more info before I get this corrected.  (There was a Maude Kieffer born in about 1868 in Missouri, but fore sure this was not MY grandmother).

An online family tree shows that Sarah's name was Sarah A. Shober, the daughter of George H. Shober, that she was born 12 Feb 1838 in Ohio, and died on 27 Mar 1877 in Kansas.  There is a Find A Grave Memorial for Sarah Keiffer, buried at the Glenwood Cemetery, Basehor, Leavenworth County, Kansas, USA; Plot: Center section Row G Lot 15 Grave 7.  You can see it HERE.  I'm not sure if it is the right person, but it could be.
