MY FAMILY, BEING VERY SPARCE, I AM WONDERING WHETHER WE ORIGINATE FROM IRELAND OR NOT . I ASK THIS BECAUSE I.VE SEEN MAHER DESCRIBED IN FRANCE, GERMANY, LEBANON, AND INDIA OF ALL PLACES. I'M CAUCASIAN BUT THAT WON'T HELP.  THANX

It could be, and could also be a simple misspelling of the name, when I do a search for just that last name in this province's religious records, the names that are brought up as resembling it include: Meilleur, Maillet, Mayer...  So you need to trace it back generation by generation really to get a true answer.

Yes, for example,

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KH5K-VHP

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KH52-7QQ

You can look up more at familysearch.org . Just enter Maher for the Last Name, Ireland for the Birthplace and Quebec Province, Canada, for Residence Place.
