Joseph Sandell's father?

Is it possible that Joseph's name was written in the father's box on his marriage certificate?

If I search the GRO index what comes up is Murrell (for a Joseph Sandell born in 1864) as the mother's maiden name. The Sandell I think might be Joseph's father is Edward Clark Sandell, the 1871 census shows that Edward had a brother called Joseph.

What's also confusing me, is that on the 1911 census, Joseph isn't present (dead), Jane is not listed as head of the house but the wife, and an Edward Murrell is listed as present and as being a brother in-law.

Any ideas, please?

I added some sources in a research section for you to check out.
Thank you for taking the time to do that. Interesting finds.

I think finding more census records with Joseph on would help but don’t seem to find him on them. I think the Murrell is key, as there’s a Murrell on the census record as brother in-law and according to the GRO Joseph’s Mum’s maiden name was Murrell.

When searching freebmd the only marriage record between a Murrell and a Sandell (transcribed as Sandall) is between an Elizabeth Murrell and a Edward Clark Sandell.

It looks like Jane has remarried as her surname is now Bratley. If Edward Murrell (widowed) is Jane's brother in law, he could be married to her sister (if she has one) and not be related to Joseph Sandell at all.

This FamilySearch tree suggests that Josephs parents were William Sandell and Hannah Ellinor. They were residing in Norfolk in 1861, the census shows a Joseph Sandell as son. But no solid proof of the connection. Worth some research to see if you can connect them perhaps?

Thank you. The only thing that is sticking me is the GRO for 1864 for a Joseph Sandell says that his Mum's maiden name is Murrell. I can't find any records between a Hannah Murrell and a Joseph Sandell though.
GRO? How do you know its correct info? And how do you know the Joseph they are referring to is your Joseph?

I found these today,

1871 census for Joe Sendall  He was living with a mother named Betsy, and a sister named Fanny M.

Fanny is listed in the GRO as Fanny Matilda, mother's maiden name Murrell.

1881 census for Fanny Sendall   She was listed as an orphan scholar/servant

I also found a possible brother named John Sendall in the GRO.  He was born in Norwich registration district the year before Joseph.

Hi Lorraine, The General Register Office holds records of births, deaths, marriages, civil partnerships, stillbirths and adoptions in England and Wales, it goes back to 1837 when civil registration was introduced in England and Wales. Nothing is infallible, but it's usually very good.
Thank you! You could be on to something here... I'll check it out.
