I've been using the Miles Files a lot:

I'm not sure this is the "proof" you need, although there is this comment: " The assumption that Warrington Staton married Catharine Crippen (instead of some other Catharine) is based on the fact that they had a daughter Keziah Staton, who married Shadrack Taylor, and they named a son Crippen Taylor. Naming children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren using the surname of a direct line ancestor has been a tradition on the Eastern Shore of Virginia since it was first settled in the early 1600s."
Also, a few resources listed:
[S1041] Staton, John Samuel - Staton History, (The Delmar Company, Charlotte, NC, 1982)
[S570] Stratton Nottingham, Accomack Co, VA, Wills & Administrations, 1663-1800, (Bowie, MD: Heritage Books, Inc., 1990), p. 204 (will of Warrington Staton, wife Catherine), 570.
I hope something there helps!
