Playing Dorothy at 12 years old in a large school production. This photo was taken after the first evening production. My sad face stemmed from that door behind me. It was wooden and heavy and wasn’t anchored well. After the house settled from the tornado (men shaking door) I stepped through the door starting to say “Oh, Toto I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore” but the door fell on top of me. Desperately and painfully searching for my lost bonnet,  I started snaking myself from under that hateful door as the orchestra (unknowing of my plight) was playing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” By the time I got out, I quavered the ending VERY unlike Judy Garland. Toto was busy frisking around keeping the audience laughing and later she went on to have a Broadway career. My career ended here. Lol . Afterwards my father said “Nevermind, Annie, someday you’ll find YOUR  treasure over the rainbow,”  smiling gently.”  And I did—my husband and children!!

I wanted to share this family photo of 52 Weeks of Photos 2022 Dress Up with the community. Location: Pennsylvania, United States. Date: 1959.

I would look pained too Karen! Especially if I was in pain. You are still are a very cute Dorthey. A family is much better than an Oscar, and Emmy combined.

Thank you, So true. I kept singing but acting no! Music is so important for the soul. Why I ever auditioned I’ll never know,  considering how shy I was. At the end that night, Toto got the standing ovation and she never spoke a word. I have to chuckle now but I must say the next two shows went much better after Dad told the director that they  had better anchor the door better.
I Hope you weren't injured Karen. After an experience like that it would be understandable to have some level of anxiety, especially is the dog got more applause.
Thank you Marty but I sure did not feel cute coming out from that hated door all disheveled and that bonnet never fit right anyway but we went off to see the Wizard on the Yellow Brick Road. I’m still laughing and a few tears.
