I am looking for birth records, parent's names, or any information about my GG GF, John Dolan b 1843 in Albany, New York, died about 1878.  He is documented in the 1875 NY State Census with my GG GM, Mary (Paddock) Dolan, children Elizabeth and Cynthia, and sister-in-law, Cynthia Paddock.  In the 1880 US Census, Mary Dolan is listed as a widow and has children Elizabeth, Cynthis, and Calvin Hamm Dolan.  I cannot find any additional information on John Dolan.

I have this record and think this could be him as well. Mary Paddock Dolan's family also lived in Albany Ward 10, so geographically it is spot on.  This John Dolan is in the Albany Penitentiary, a boarding house of sorts!

John Dolan has been found!!  Thank you to the Troy Irish Genealogy Society for court records that allowed me to ID John Dolan's Civil War Widows Pension Index Card, then find that packet of almost 100 documents in the National Archives!   I know his mother was Ann Dolan, born 1822 in Ireland and can follow her  in New York  until her death.  Not sure if I'll ever find anything else about his parents, but quite excited to have John at this moment!
