Can't get imported GEDCOM data to link.

I have imported GEDCOM data but am still having trouble getting everything to link. On my watch list, I can see all of the data is in. I have reviewed all for duplicates and merged them. Do I have to now link all the various kin? I had assumed those links were made in the previous GEDCOM and would carry through when I imported to my tree.

Hi Jim,

If you give a specific example or two, including the IDs, I'll investigate.

Thanks a lot, Chris!

Here is one example: Gilmore-597

This is my great-great grandmother and was in the GEDCOM file I imported. I would have expected all of her ancestors to link after I did a merge.

Hi Jim,

Looking at http://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Gilmore-Family-Tree-597 who is missing?

If you look at your GEDCOM import report http://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:UploadGedcom&action=report&gu_id=5771 were these people included or skipped?

Chris
By the way, love those photos!

Hi Chris,

I'm not sure why they were skipped. They should have been included.

I'm wondering now if maybe some of the data in the imported GEDCOM file was simply insifficient. This person, for example - Powers-1193 - isn't really linked to anyone. Maybe I get another GEDCOM file that includes more info on these people and import that?

Jim

Hi Jim. You could import another file with new people, you'd just want to be really careful to follow the instructions, read the GEDCOM FAQ, and not create duplicates.
