Did Pheobe Reed b 1800 in Vermont exist?

In doing some clean-up on one of the early Reed families of Vermont, we come to a Phoebe Reed b 1800 for whom I can find no records. The sole citation on the profile stems from an 1820 Census which, of course, gives no names of children. There is a daughter Elizabeth who is documented with a birth approximately 1800. In trying to locate the origin of Phoebe as being part of this family, it seems she simply appears in most internet genealogy. Can anyone else find anything on her or something that disproves her? Thanks.

From my experience with Vermont records from those years, I would not draw conclusions from the absence of records. Vermont records from that period are very inconsistent.

One of my interesting mysteries has been the two men named Cephas Clark who seem to have been born in Rutland County in 1807 and later turn up separately in New York state. Only one of these men is associated with any records from Vermont. See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Clark-40284 and https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Clark-57134. [I have pursued these men because of a bigger mystery related to a communication from a man who traces descent from Clark-40284 and says that he has Y-DNA evidence that convinces him that the father of Clark-40284 is an ancestor of mine who is known to have lived in Vermont for about 35 years (about 1785-1820) but is almost completely absent from Vermont records.]

Thanks. The records on her father (my ancestor) are extremely thin covering only about a twenty year period—nothing before or after has been found. I have wondered if you went there on a research trip if anything additional could be found.

I searched Ancestry and Family Search for any evidence but found none with parents Mathias and Elizabeth. There is another Phebe but she married a Reed. Strange but suspect it may be in the name. Could try blanket search of Reed with parents names added.

Thanks, Denise. I also wondered about the Phebe who became a Reed getting improperly attached somewhere along the way.
