Can you change information on a person if it is managed by someone else?

Giddings-929 Levi  Franklin Giddings is my GGfathers brother.  Levi is on the tree and I have tried to reach the profile manager regarding some information that I have on the family.  I have not heard back. My question can I make changes or should I just wait? It is not complete or correct in some of the information.

How did you try reaching him? Private message? Perhaps he didn't see. He is active, here today in fact. I would leave a comment on the profile about the information you have.

If you have a source that is not on the profile, I would say feel free to add it. Be mindful of the style he uses on the profile.

Hi Nancy. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I did finally get a message and we are both ok with me changing the info. I have the info and sources so he agreed and I will make the changes.   Thanks for your guidance!  Jan

Since you have signed the honor code, you can absolutely make changes. That is the whole point of a common tree using the wiki system. More eyes looking at the same profiles, more people doing research, it all works together to improve the profiles.

That said, the profile owner has done a fair bit of work on this profile, it wasn't a simple "create-and-forget" profile. You do want to be sensitive to their style and their work. If you don't hear back in a reasonable amount of time, go ahead and make the changes, and be sure to include the source.

What Rob said is valid for "Open" profiles. The Giddings-929 profile is Open, so you can edit it (being mindful of the need to consult and collaborate).

For more recent profiles that have non-Open privacy settings, you would need approval from the profile manager.
