Seeking ancestry of Thomas Armstrong m. Martha, b. 1748 South Kingstown, RI

I am trying to find the parentage of Thomas Armstrong, b. 1748 South KIngstown, Rhode Island who married Martha in 1775.  I believe they came over from Newport, RI or else they came from Norwich, CT area.  Thomas's grandson by has daughter Hannah Armstrong, b. 18 April 1775 (the day of Paul Revere's midinight ride) who married Green Kinyon (he also married her older sister Sarah who died in 1792- the year he married Hannah). Thomas Armstrong Kenyon was born in Lebanon, Norwich County, Connecticut in 20 April 1810, d. 23 July 1895 in Charlestown, RI.  Green Kinyon and Hannah Armstrong Kinyon lived in South KIngstown, Ri (present-day Point Judith, Narragansett, Rhode Island- there farm is now Fisherman's Memorial Park.  They did not live in Lebanon, CT hence I thought perhaps Hannah and her father Thomas Armstrong might be from an Armstrong relative in Norwich as they were a founding family there, having Jonathan Armstrong as a founder of Norwich having receive land after being imprisoned and expelled from Westerly, RI while Rhode Island and Connecticut were still fighting of boundaries and jurisciction over southern Rhode Island.  Connecticut released him from prison and granted him lands at Norwich, CT.  There are also Armstrongs found in early Newport, RI who are thought to have immigrated from Scotland.

Hi there!  My ancestor is Green Ken Armstrong and I feel strongly we are in same family, albeit maybe not direct lines.  I believe Green's parents were Nathaniel and Lucy.  Nathaniel being born 1768.  What do you think?
My G G Great Grandfather was Green K. Armstrong, his son Nathaniel G. Armstrong, B 1850 was my G Grandfather, lived in Wakefield, RI.  Sound like the same Green K. ???
Hi Art!  I am so sorry...somehow I missed your email and just saw it!  YES! Your Nathaniel G is the brother of Edgar Hollis Armstrong who is my 2x great grandfather.  I have the family bible with some records in it.  I don't know if this line is different from what is mentioned above, but our Green K is Green "Ken"...I have not seen Kinyon as mentioned above.  Also, it is recorded that he married 2 Tanner sisters (Lucinda and Mary) and not the Sarah and Hannah mentioned there.  It must be different lines. Anyway, I have the photos of the bible pages on my phone and can text them to you if you would like to see them!  My grandmother had the bible and left it to my aunt and she just gave it to me about a year ago since I am the "historian".  Your Nathaniel G's mother was Mary Tanner? My Edgar Hollis is from Green's 3rd and final wife, Annie Hollis. I believe we are related!!!

Hi Michael:

There was a Michael Armstrong who married a Lydia Mott - both of North Kingstown - 11 March 1740. (Dr. Torrey's Record of Marriages in RI Historical Society Collections, Vols 15-18.)

They had a son Thomas born in North Kingstown on 10 January ______. See Rhode Island, Vital Extracts, 1636-1899, Vol 5 Washington County, page 54.

They had several children - but the time is about right.

Have you explored this couple as a possibility?

Ann- Thank you so much for responding with that information- I spent the whole night searching that info on google, but could not find a list of their children or the couples parents or birth info.  Do you know if that info also exists r is there a reference I could refer to?  I found a Michael Armstrong b. 1723 who married a Hannah Babcock b. 1728  and I found a tree that contained Michael Armstrong & Lydia unknown but the tree had this Michael Armstrong born on 2 Aug 1670, which is too early to be the Michael Armstrong I am looking for, unless of course the tree has the dates wrong.  The tree listed Michael & Lydia's children as born in the 1690's :  George, Thomas, Jane, Susannah, and Lydia- Lydia Armstrong married John Dawley.

- still searching

Don't give up on Michael - yet. The Vital Records of RI have no birth years for Jane, Susannah, Thomas, and George and a couple of un-named children.  They may belong to either of these Michaels.

A 1774 RI Colonial Census - Town of South Kingston, RI - indicates that Thomas Armstrong was a resident with 2 white males above 16 years; two white males under 16 years of age; 1 white female over 16 years of age and 2 white females under 16 years of age.

Still a challenge!
