How do I change a person in Wikitree? I've got someone married to mom.

Question

I made a mistake in my tree and have someone married to his mother! How to I change this? James Henry Van Ness' wife is NOT Rachel Ann (Acord) Van Ness (Acord-388). She is his mother! His actual wife is Clara Francis Duff.

I would link Clara's Ancestry.com page here, but apparently I'm too stupid to figure out how to cut and paste into G2G text boxes.

Please help!

Edit his profile, scroll down on the right until you see the spouse section then click on [add/remove spouse] and follow the steps.

Click the edit tab and then over at the right you'll see all the relationships and people.  Scroll down to Spouse and in tiny type you'll see "Add/remove spouse."  Click on that and remove the wrong woman, then add the right one (you'll need her Wiki-ID).

I still need help. I changed Rachel Ann Acord from James Henry Van Ness' wife to his mother. It's correct on his page, but still incorrect everywhere else. It shows her as the mother of my great grandmother (Olive Margaret <Schultz> Van Ness (Van_Ness-272) ); and she's not Olive's mother; she's Olive's mother-in-law; I think. How do I get rid of Rachel Ann Acord permanently on the maternal line of Olive Margaret Van Ness? I want the correct mother listed for my great grandmother.

I did it myself this week too!

just go to the places where it is wrong such as the child and there is an option to remove a mother. And you can use the ID of the real mother to replace her. (The I D is just beside the name and if you click on it, it copies it, allowing you to put the correct ID in the mother box.

Take the time to breathe.  There's no rush with these things.  It will get easier with time, and the more you do things.

I’ve been here a year but I’m still learning how to do things. Mistakes can be corrected. I try to go back to some of my older entries each month and update them as I get to understand the system more.
