This will be my very first Source-a-Thon and I cannot wait to join you all.

I will start with sourcing my watchlist first (I only have two unsourced profiles) and then I will move on to unsourced birth records for Heymans and Grobler surnames.

Hi Ronel. We talked to Ales about that at the last hangout. Some of the profiles say that as they fall into a different category of "unsourced," but they still count. Go ahead and use the tracker and it will count.

Could it be because you use Bio improvment  and not  Add Sources. ?

Good day all.

I can't wait for it. Up until the start I'm taking all the NEL profiles and creating a list of sources - most of them marriages. If there is any other last names I can concentrate on let me know. My idea is to just add 1 link with my signature per profile and go back afterwards (in the new month) to properly do the in-line citations.

Dankie vir die onderneming om ons Groot Suid Afrikaanse Boom te verbeter. 

Hou in gedagte dat elke bron bygevoeg belangrik is en elkeen van die spanlede se bydrae (groot of klein) word hoog op prys gestel.

Dit is so opwindend om te soek en te vind ..  dus gaan   ons baie pret he. 

Naguile : Maak seker dat julle baie koffie het :-))

'n privaat tassie met allerlei lekkernye  is natuurlik ook baie belangrik want ons gaan mos nie roer nie en ons huismense sal moet kos maak want ons "Source"   :-))

Die skakel na die Familysearch val onder hierdie groep 

"A source cannot be another user-generated family tree, such as Geni or an Ancestry Member Tree." (Sekondere bron) 

Dus volgens die reels gaan so 'n skakel nie tel nie  en sal enige primere bron (Doop, Huwelik, Sterfte Kennis maw 'n amptelike dokument)   getel word 

Net ter verduideliking

Nie almal kan suksesvol  Family Search besoek nie. Sommige lede sukkel daarmee of wil nie by familysearch aansluit nie,'n Bron op Wikitree moet sigbaar wees vir almal. Dit is hoekom ons die moeite doen om die informasie te transkribeer en die foto ook plaas, nie net die skakel nie. 

:OK  les oor.... Juffrou het die klas verlaat :-))  

Geniet die soektog en dankie by voorbaat.

Ek het die tydsones nagegaan en vind ons begin 14-00h Vrydag 30 September. Stem julle saam ?

Hoop almal se tik vingers is gereed vir die aanval op al die bronlose profiele :-)

Onthou om die "tracker"  te gebruik om telling te hou van jul werk !!

Hallo julle

As julle 2 nm Frydag begin met die Source-A-Thon, dan is dit 1vm Saterdag hier by ons in New Zealand Ek sal dan so bietjie later begin as julle nie omgee nie.

If you start the Source-A-Thon on Friday at 2 pm, the time will be 1 am on Saturday here in New Zealand.  That mean I will start a little later if you don't mind.

I note they do not want to count as sources other family trees from Geni and Ancestry, but how about SA Families? (Or deV/P or SA Genealogies for that matter?)

I Am am not sure but I think that is what is refered to as secondary sources and they are looking for primary sources.

But let me try and find out

I get what they are driving at, and I think SA Families should be acceptable, as should familysearch Family Tree. I agree that unsourced user trees posted on other sites (by individual users) are not preferred.

Please, I am not trying to start a big debate. I am in the "better than nothing"  crowd on this.  Keith

Count as unsourced:

  The profile has no primary sources. If it only has second-hand sources, such as other user-generated trees, it fits our definition of unsourced. But if it has one or more good sources it's not unsourced, even if every fact doesn't have a citation. Adding more sources is always a good thing. (Thank you, again!) But we don't count additional sources in the Source-a-Thon or Sourcerers Challenges.

I had lots of fun 2 Esme 

We tried to cath you but you were sprinting this year 

 Thanks  Marco and Christiaan  for the chase  It inspired me to pusch through

I know some members had power cuts, others had medical problems and Des had no responce from the tracker Sorry about that Des

 Keith got frustrated but you all hanged in there and endured for the team ....Thank you from the bottem of my heart 

In the end we are all winners becauese our South Afrcan tree are healthier  Wow over 5 thousand sources in 3 days, 

About 63 thousand in the global tree. 

Building a tree we can be proud of.

For the new members drop me a note and tell me what you had difficulties with. How can we make it easier/ improve  for next year?  {2023 The year we will lead the Thon)  We almost did it this year but we are still  learning the tricks and gettin better each year.... 

Esme posted about an app. 

You should consinder using it. It makes it much easier 

 All the hidden sources wil become available

I used it and found 50% more sources than  with the normal search on  FamilySearch by going into the FS family trees. 

My sincere thanks to every source you sourced, profile you improved, and every frustration you overcame. 

A team is like the starlit sky.The beauty lies in the compleate picture...

Now, this really irritates me!

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Greef-51 has no parents. So I figured out who they are, and then found her father is in WikiTree but I cannot connect his child because his profile is Project Protected.

I took the "Unsourced" credit anyway.

You can still add the source and put a link in the biography with the parent's Wikitree IDs.

Send a message to the Project to review and and they will connect the profiles.
