Proper markup for the Find a Grave template

I've been working on template errors included in the Data Doctor's challenge list and have noticed that many WikiTreers are still adding parameters to the Find a Grave template that have been deprecated.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Template:FindAGrave This page explains the use of the template and displays the two parameters (YES, just 2!) that are included: the memorial number and the sameas. Nothing else should be added, such as names, explanations, notes, etc.

So, a typical use when placing the person's Find a Grave Memorial in a source would be {{FindAGrave|123456}}.  Though it is not incorrect to use the sameas=yes, it's really extra typing you do not need to add.

IF the memorial referenced IS NOT of the person who is being profiled, use {{FindAGrave|234567|sameas=no}}.

So that is all you should be typing. If you add more, it will show up in the error list and a data doctor will have to remove the extra information.

Thanks for your attention. :-)  (In case you wonder, yes, I've been quite absent in the last few months, but I'm still working the error lists at the time being.)  Cheers!

Mind-boggling that people are still doing this.

1. Should the "sameas=yes" be used in a FindAGrave citation template when we've used "sameas=no" in another FindAGrave citation template on the same profile? I thought so, but if I am wrong, I will be happy to discontinue using it.

2. I sometimes put parenthetical notes at the end of the entire full citation, though never within the template. Those parenthetical notes are not problematic are they?

3. Is it still okay to use only the template in the place of the full FindAGrave citation and is this still a matter of personal preference? I prefer to use the full citation within which the template is put in place of the FindAGrave memorial ID but I know others opt for only the template. (I think sometimes new WikiTreers do not know the difference between the template and the full citation and are given the impression the full citation is not necessary or not preferable to some of us. I have had people replace my full FindAGrave citations with just the template!)

4. Please provide an example of the placement of the template within the full citation. Should it replace the URL or should be put in place of the FindAGrave memorial ID number? I just want to be sure. Or does it matter? I am currently using citations generated by WikiTree BEE and in those citations the template replaces the FindAGrave memorial ID number not the URL.

Template replaces the ID, not the url.
These are all fine.
Thanks, Aaron and Melanie!
Template replaces the link, or that's how I understood it. Template creates a lilnk to the memorial on Find a Grave, so when/if find a grave changes their url, our link will still work.

The template replaces the bolded section, because until recently there was no link to the memorial, and we removed it.

Find a Grave, database and images (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/84868861/nelly-walter: accessed 11 September 2022), memorial page for Nelly Potter Walter (10 Jul 1866–9 Oct 1930), Find a Grave Memorial ID 84868861, citing Abney Park Cemetery, Stoke Newington, London Borough of Hackney, Greater London, England; Maintained by Rebecca Ewing Peterson (contributor 46987065) .

Aleš said the other day it was ok to remove the https:// part (actually, he said it was ok to also remove the www), so it would look like this —

Find a Grave, database and images (www.findagrave.com/memorial/84868861/nelly-walter: accessed 11 September 2022), memorial page for Nelly Potter Walter (10 Jul 1866–9 Oct 1930), {{FindAGrave|84868861}}, citing Abney Park Cemetery, Stoke Newington, London Borough of Hackney, Greater London, England; Maintained by Rebecca Ewing Peterson (contributor 46987065).

Thanks, again, Melanie. I saw the question in which this was being discussed, but it got rather beyond me so I just wanted some clarification.

When I was taking the Profile Improvement 'course' it was recommended that it should be thus:

Find a Grave, database and images (www.findagrave.com/memorial/20298235/charles-austin-bemis : accessed 15 June 2021), memorial page for '''Charles Austin Bemis''' (29 Jan 1848–16 Mar 1926), {{FindAGrave|20298235}},citing Graniteville Cemetery in [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marlborough,_New_Hampshire/| Marlborough, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, USA]. Maintained by lynnz74 (contributor 46870237)

That's adding to the citation as provided by Find a Grave, something I am not prepared to spend the extra time doing.  (I already spend way too many hours just researching and collecting citations.)

I use it this way:

Find a Grave, database and images ({{FindAGrave|91359577}}: accessed 11 September 2022), memorial page for Robert Lee Love (1868–1929), Find a Grave Memorial ID 91359577, citing Hullett Cemetery, DeKalb County, Tennessee, USA; Maintained by Sandy Ainley (contributor 47617483) .

The Wikipedia link is not part of the original FindAGrave citation, so you shouldn't add it to the source.
The PIP Voyage guidelines do not have a specific recommendation to add the Wikipedia link in the citation. A Guide might recommend it if there was something special about the cemetery that readers might find interesting. As far as I know adding the link will not trigger a suggestion so I don’t think there is any harm in adding it.
Thank you, everyone, for your answers.  You have taught me well.
