Wow, Thank you for showcasing the Maxwell Name Study.   I get lots of enquiries and assistance from both WT and non WT members because of this study.   There are over 200 WikiTreers following Maxwell currently.   Just give me a shout if you would like to join us.

A maternal aunt of mine said that Margaret (Maxwell) Ramsay's middle name was  missing, so I looked it up on Ancestry.com and her name was listed as "Margaret M. Maxwell", "Margaret M. Ramsay", and "Margaret M. Maxwell Ramsay".   I found birth, marriage, death, and census records with M as her middle initial.  Could her middle initial M stand for "Mary"?

It's possible, Mary is so common it's sometimes just assumed.  Sometimes there is no middle name and the middle name is used so M could mean Maxwell.  The bottom line is that until you know, you don't know.
