You inherit your mtDNA from your mother, so baring an unlikely mutation, it should be essentially the same as yours.
All sons and daughters inherit mtDNA markers from their mother. The daughters pass them on, but the sons cannot.
I took the basic mtDNA test which yields a few hundred markers as I recall. In my case it indicated that my mother's maternal ancestors spent a very long time in England. You are primarily interested in your maternal side of the family.
It's possible that it would indicate a certain region of continental Europe.
