Parents of Rasmus Pieter Erasmus 18 Aug 1865 - 3 June 1935

Question

Rasmus Pieter Erasmus  is my great granfather. For about 15 years I have been searching for his parents to complete my family tree without ANY success. The nearest I could get was his baptism but his birt date is 18 NOV 1865 and the parents were Rasmus Pieter Erasmus and wife Viviers??? I am reluctant to accept this because of the difference of the months. I do not want to add non-related persons to my tree. PLEASE HELP ME? Rasmus Pieter wrote in his Bible: his birth date 18 Aug 1865; wife1 Hester Helena Kriel 22 Feb 1873 and marriage 24 March 1890; children 1) R P 30 May 1891, 2) GJP 23 Feb 1893, 3) JP 22 Feb 1895, 4) MJM (Erasmus) Pretorius, 5) PJ 22 Oct 1899, 6) Elizabeth Maria (Erasmus) Havinga 26 Feb 1902 and 7) HH 28 April 1905. Then  wife 1 HH Kriel died 22 Apr 1914.

Wife 2: Johanna Christephore V Tonder b.13 Jan 1899 married 30 Aug 1915. Children 1) Frederik Johannes 19 Aug 1922, 2) HH 14 May 1925 and 3) JC 2 Oct 1926.

Wat is die skakel na die bron wat jou so seker maak dat die geboortedatum 18 Aug 1865 moet wees

Hallo Louis. My enigste werklike bewys is wat oupa gr RP in sy Bybel opgeteken het van homself, sy 2 vrouens met hul troudatums, HH se dood en al die kinders se geboortedatums. As ek die feit dat hy homself as gebore op 18 Augustus 1965 moet aanvaar dat hy 'n fout gemaak het, het ek dan nou 'n nuwe familielyn en kan gaan rus, haha. Tot dusver was al sy inskrywings 100% korrek. Ek is net bang ek veroorsaak onenigheid met ander families wat nie in my familie wil wees nie.

As jy nog die oorspronklike foto het sonder die wit en blou strepe laai dan die foto op WikiTree asb. Volgens die foto wat ky op FamilySearch opgelaai het, kan ons aanvaar dat Rasmus Pieter wel geglo het dat hy in Aug gebore was. 

Wanneer ons na die indeks van dope kyk https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSX8-Y3LM-5?i=636&cat=968412 is die naaste Erasmus Pieter gebore 18-11-1865. Dit los ons met 'n effense tameletjie en moet ons ondersteunende getuienis vind om te bewys dat hierdie doopinskrywing wel na hom verwys.

Ek het wel gekyk na die ringregister https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSV8-69CP-X?i=309&cat=960849 en dit vergelyk met die oorspronklike register https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-X38S-JNB?i=104&cc=1392488&cat=2357440 om te sien of daar nie dalk 'n fout ingesluip het nie, helaas tog nie.

Sy sterftekennis by https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C91Q-F7GV-5?i=63&cc=2521616 is 'n doodloopstraat vir sy ouers as sulks is ons laaste hoop die naamgewings patroon vir sy kinders en ook wie die getuies was by daardie dope.

Rasmus was born in 1865, Beaufort West. Died in 1935 in Groot Doorn Hay. Probate lists four children: Rasmus Pieter Erasmus, Gideon Jacobus Erasmus, Jacobus and Magdalena. Surviving wife Johanna Christophora Erasmus. Predeceased spouse Hester Helena Erasmus (died 1914)

Based on marriages detailed in the probate record his marriages were as follows:

• Rasmus Pieter Erasmus married Hester Helena Kriel (born 1873) 24 Mar 1890 in Hay, Kaapprovinsie, Suid-Afrika
• Rasmus Pieter Erasmus married Johanna Christephora Van Tonder (born 1889) 30 Aug 1915 in Hay, Kaapprovinsie, Suid-Afrika

I've put sources for these on the profile. A pedigree file in family search suggests a tree that deserves further https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/G77R-S7Q It appears his father may have been the same name (1838-1882) and mother Elizabeth Maria Vivier (1840-?)

The supposed father was born 16 Jul 1838, Cape Colony, South Africa. Son of Rasmus Pieter Erasmus and Catharina Carolina Margaretha Jacobs https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:66PQ-HYC7. 

He married 29 Apr 1861 Elizabeth Maria Vivier https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:86FV-9YT2

Probate dated 1880. Born Telbach Cape Colony died Bloemfontein Free State https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q2HT-XMWW. Probate record lists his children including a son of the same name.

If I look at the baptism of RP (parents RP and EM Viviers), the child was born 18th November 1865, but my gr grandpa was born on 18th August 1865. That is exactly what my query is. Thank you for adding to the tree but you have added another person to the tree which is not my family, at least until a record shows his correct birth date. Rasmus wrote in his bible he was accepted and confirmed in his church on the 26th August 1888 if that would help

I didn't add anyone to the tree, only sources. His parents married  in 1861. The father's probate record shows his son Rasmus as their eldest child.

Thank you Jean. I will definately go through all the documents and try to figure out who could the patents be. In the meantime, I'm hoping for someone to come foreward with a definate birth date or some church document of 26 Aug 1888 for RP. Regards to everyone who is helping.
